We are seeking a skilled and reliable Painter to join our maintenance team at Merry Hill Shopping Centre. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining the appearance and condition of internal and external areas throughout the centre and car parks ensuring a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for visitors, tenants, and staff.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare surfaces for painting by cleaning, sanding, filling, and priming as required.
  • Apply paint, varnish, stains, and other finishes to walls, ceilings, doors, mall areas, and communal staff areas.
  • Carry out routine maintenance painting and decorative works across the shopping centre.
  • Repair minor plasterwork, cracks, and surface defects before painting.
  • Ensure all work is completed to a high standard with minimal disruption to shoppers and retailers.
  • Safely use and maintain painting tools, equipment, ladders, and access platforms.
  • Follow health and safety procedures, including the safe handling and storage of paints and chemicals.
  • Identify and report maintenance issues that may require further attention.
  • Maintain accurate records of completed work and materials used.
  • Perform any other duties as required by the business.

Skills, Knowledge and Experience

  • Proven experience as a painter and decorator, preferably in a commercial, retail, or facilities management environment.
  • Knowledge of surface preparation techniques and paint application methods.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a maintenance team.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Good understanding of health and safety regulations.
  • Flexibility to work outside normal trading hours when required.
  • Relevant qualifications in Painting and Decorating are desirable but not essential.

Desirable Skills

  • Basic plastering and repair skills.
  • Experience working in large retail, shopping centre, or public-facing environments.
  • Knowledge of COSHH regulations and safe chemical handling.
  • IPAF, PASMA, or working-at-height certifications would be advantageous.

Working Hours - Shift work (6am-14:30pm, 13:00pm-21:30pm, 8am-4:30pm, 8:30am-19:00pm, 11:00am-5:30pm)

Salary - £20,856
