An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Stead House Distribution Centre as a transport operator. This role would be based on the PM Shift but flexibility would be required to work other shifts. This role operates a 5/7 working pattern so regular weekend working would be required as well as some element of lone working.

A typical day in this role includes:

  • Ensuring all drivers are issued with correct delivery instructions and activities.
  • De-briefing drivers after every trip and delivering feedback to the appropriate department.
  • Optimising all resources available.
  • Working closely with the warehouse operations function ensuring seamless loading and dispatch procedure.
  • Liaising with the planning team and providing information and recommendations where required.
  • Providing constructive feedback to the driver management team on performance and behaviour of drivers.
  • Ensuring vehicles and trailers are kept within service schedules, booking all required maintenance and repairs with the relevant workshop.
  • Utilising the administration procedures accurately and in a timely manner, including all KPI support information.
  • Providing a first line of contact with stores in the event of schedule changes and daily issues.
  • Providing an effective shift handover to the incoming team.
  • Engaging in a co-operative and positive culture within the Distribution Centre and the wider business.
  • Supporting colleagues, Team Leaders and Transport Manager where required.

What you'll need:

  • Previous experience within a transport environment including managing drivers is an advantage but not essential.
  • Good understanding of cost accountability.

  • Able to work within a team as well as on own initiative.
  • Customer facing exposure.
