Role Purpose
The Renewable Energy Design Engineer will play a pivotal role in the development of commercial renewable energy/electric vehicle charging projects. Reporting to the Head of Projects, you will lead on the design stage of solar PV, BESS and EV charging solutions, as well as our internally developed renewable heating technology, JustHeat. Your responsibilities will include technical design activities, full ownership of DNO liaison (G99/ENA applications), the collation of pre-construction documentation and Operations & O&M packs.
You will bring a strong foundation in EV charging/solar PV project development, including the use of design tools such as PVSyst/PVSol and proprietary mounting kit design platforms. You will also have the capability to undertake site surveys to confirm design feasibility and enable accurate pricing in collaboration with our estimating and project management teams.
The ideal candidate will have experience that combines elements of electrical design through the production of schematic diagrams and cable sizing, experience with the planning legislation, preparing and submitting statutory applications through the planning portal, and a detailed understanding of solar PV, BESS and EV charging design processes. The role has opportunities for progression for the right candidate as we build and scale our Energy and Operations teams. With opportunities to expand into EV charging, energy efficiency, renewable heating or project management, depending on the candidates’ ambitions. This role combines technical depth, a keen eye for detail, supply chain experience and client-facing commercial experience. Ensuring designed systems are fit for purpose and meet our clients objectives to deliver measurable impact.

Skills & Experience
Essential
- Proficient with PV design tools (e.g. PV*Sol, PVsyst, SolarEdge Design Platform, or similar).
- Capable of the development of electrical SLDs, confident using AutoCAD or equivalent.
- Experience with MCS standards for solar PV and battery storage.
- Good understanding of electrical principles, DNO requirements, and relevant wiring regulations.
- Strong attention to detail, good documentation skills, and the ability to work to deadlines across multiple projects.
- Strong understanding of renewable energy technologies and controls systems.
- Financial and technical modelling skills; able to translate engineering data into clear business cases.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
- Have a minimum of 3 years’ experience in similar roles.
- Ideally have a Degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy or similar.
- A UK driving license for site visits and willingness to travel as required.
