Overview of the Audit Specialist role at Save the Children International. Global Assurance supports Boards and management by evaluating governance, risk management, control and oversight systems. The role involves delivering internal audit plans for SCI and, when needed, for other member organizations, leading or participating in audit assignments, reviews, and investigations to professional standards.

Reports To: Head of Audit

Work Pattern: Hybrid/Remote with flexible working options available

Grade: P3

Time Zone: Europe, WCA, ESA, MENAEE Time Zones (UTC/GMT + / - 3 hours)

Right to Work: The successful candidate must possess the unrestricted right to work in their current or preferred location for the duration of employment.

Language Requirements: English; a second language such as French, Spanish, Arabic, etc will be an added advantage.

International Travel Requirements: Yes, up to 50%.

Senior Accountabilities:
  • Work closely with Senior Audit Specialists and the Global Assurance Management Team in planning, conducting, reporting and follow-up assignments from the audit plan on time, to a high standard and within budget.
  • Be involved in the annual planning exercise for SCI, in close collaboration with other assurance providers within Save the Children and external co-sourced providers where necessary.
  • Provide input to the preparation of operational and strategic audit plans and into the future shape and direction of the Global Assurance department; apply technical and professional expertise where assigned a specialism.
  • Respond to queries raised by management with prompt and professional advice.
  • Contribute to Global Assurance's transformation plans and promote learning and share good practice across teams.
  • Maintain professional acumen and strong interpersonal skills in client interactions to build strong relationships.
  • Advise on internal control and oversight during systems development, especially at SCI.
  • Promote horizontal learning and ensure learning is identified and shared.
  • Invest in own self-development and professional growth, including performance management and maintaining relevant certifications.
Experience and Skills:
  • Relevant experience in operational risk areas to which Save the Children – primarily SCI – is exposed.
  • Ability to focus on key issues and help auditees concentrate on crucial control matters.
  • Detail-oriented with capacity to manage multiple projects with conflicting priorities.
  • Strong written communication in English; excellent verbal communication skills at all levels.
  • Interpersonal coaching skills with the ability to deliver difficult messages tactfully.
  • Willingness to undertake a high amount of travel overseas and work with minimal supervision in challenging environments.
  • Strong cultural awareness and ability to work with diverse backgrounds; high standards of ethics and integrity.
  • Commitment to Save the Children's values.
  • Experience evaluating systems and processes, identifying weaknesses and areas for improvement, or extensive experience in relevant operational areas (e.g., programme/project management in an INGO context) and willingness to learn audit skills.
Education and Qualifications:
  • Be a qualified or part-qualified internal auditor (IIA) or accountant; or
  • Have 3-5 years of experience in relevant operational areas (e.g., programme/project management in an INGO context) and be willing to learn the appropriate audit skills.
