• Team and Role Purpose

The role holder will be part of SCI’s Legal team, responsible for providing high‑quality, strategic legal advice and support to SCI’s Global Teams and across SCI’s 54 Country Offices on legal issues across SCI and the wider Save the Children movement.

In this role, the successful candidate will primarily support SCI’s international programme delivery.

• Work Pattern: Hybrid/Remote with flexible working options available
• Location: Any approved Save the Children International office in the required time zone (GMT +/- 3 hours)
• Contract Length: Fixed Term Contract (18 months)
• Right to Work: Must have the right to work in the country where the role is based, for the duration of employment.

• Principal Accountabilities

Delivering high quality and professional advice and support to SCI Country Offices and Global Teams on a diverse range of legal issues, including:

• Advising country offices in one or more of SCI’s five regions, acting as a Regional Legal Business Partner when required.
• Advising Global Teams and senior stakeholders on matters of global scope, including legal risk and governance‑related issues.
• Advising on the legal aspects of scaling up programming operations, particularly in humanitarian emergencies.
• Advising on issues arising under Save the Children’s internal framework.
• Managing advice from and relationships with external legal advisers, helping stakeholders interpret and apply such advice.
• Drafting, reviewing and negotiating contracts, including partnership agreements and goods and services contracts, and leading complex commercial contracting for Supply Chain and Transformation Delivery functions.
• Leading initiatives to identify opportunities for training and new legal tools to manage risk, including development and delivery of such training.
• Leading legal team initiatives such as managing pro‑bono law firm relationships and fostering a culture of mentoring and training within the team.
• Advising on legal compliance areas such as fraud, sanctions and anti‑terrorism, working with or independently from SCI’s legal compliance team.
• Undertaking line management or mentoring of junior team members when required.

Essential Experience and Skills

• Senior‑level post‑qualification experience in a reputable private practice or in‑house legal team, in one or more of the following areas: general corporate/commercial, charity/not‑for‑profit, dispute resolution, regulatory.
• Ability to business partner with functions or teams to understand priorities and deliver pragmatic, legally appropriate solutions.
• Sound judgement and ability to manage multiple senior stakeholders in a pressured environment.
• Strong time‑management, prioritisation and ability to work efficiently to tight deadlines.
• Strong interpersonal skills and proven ability to communicate complex legal information to diverse audiences.
• Excellent spoken and written communication skills in English.
• Calm disposition, constructive approach and positive outlook, particularly under pressure.
• Team player with appreciation of collaboration value.
• Commitment to the mission, vision and values of Save the Children.

Desirable Experience

• Experience in employment, finance, data protection, intellectual property or dispute resolution.
• Experience in international development, humanitarian and/or charity sectors.
• Experience working in an international organisation.
• Experience operating across jurisdictions, including instructing overseas counsel.
• Experience working in an in‑house legal team.
• Ability to work in another SCI core language (French, Arabic or Spanish).
• UK or common law qualified lawyer or barrister; consideration for qualified lawyers in non‑common law jurisdictions.
