Legal Counsel (Compliance) – Role Overview
Save the Children International invites applications for a Legal Counsel (Compliance) to support the Global Legal and Compliance team.
The position reports to the Head of Legal Compliance and is located in any approved workplace within the required time zone.

- Principal Accountabilities
- Provide high‑quality legal, regulatory and compliance advice to SCI Country Offices and Global teams.
- Support the Head of Legal Compliance with strategy, annual planning and roll‑out of compliance frameworks.
- Represent the Legal Team at cross‑functional meetings and relevant committees.
- Prepare papers for the Audit & Risk Committee.
- Lead training on legal compliance risks.
- Manage disputes against SCI and conduct internal investigations when appropriate.
- Lead compliance aspects of humanitarian responses.
- Manage relationships with external law firms and advise stakeholders on external counsel input.
- Provide line management and mentoring to junior team members as required.
- Carry out additional legal duties reasonably required.
Essential Qualifications
- Senior level post‑qualification experience in private practice or in‑house in areas such as sanctions, export controls, bribery laws, charity law, modern slavery, or dispute resolution.
- Business‑partnering skills to understand and address functional priorities.
- Sound judgement and ability to manage multiple stakeholders in a pressured environment.
- Practical application of technical expertise to solve problems.
- Strong time‑management and ability to work to tight deadlines.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, able to explain technical matters to diverse audiences.
- Fluency in English, both spoken and written.
- Calm disposition and positive outlook, especially under pressure.
- Team player with appreciation for collaboration.
- Commitment to the mission, vision and values of Save the Children.
Desirable Qualifications
- Knowledge of international development, humanitarian or charity sectors.
- Experience in an international organisation and across multiple jurisdictions.
- In‑house experience and familiarity with instructing overseas counsel.
- Proficiency in a SCI core language other than English (French, Arabic or Spanish).
- UK or common law qualification, barrister or solicitor.
- Significant post‑qualification experience (PQE).
