Team and Role Purpose
Save the Children is a global organisation with ambitious goals. To do this we need to ensure we effectively connect with the children and families we support as well as the communities and partners we work. Over the past 8 years, Save the Children has undertaken significant transformation. Change is implemented through a portfolio of projects by the Transformation Delivery & IT Department, through various sub-teams such as Transformation Development, Delivery, Business Analysis, Portfolio Management Office and IT staff. Given the size and complexity of the transformation portfolio at Save the Children, we often identify dependencies that need to be addressed through the creation of sub-projects or come across roadblocks that ultimately could impact the successful delivery of our projects. These, if not dealt with, result in costly delays and the capacity within the existing management structure is not sufficient to cope with this demand. Adding to this, we have no transformation resource bench and often the solution to avoid delays is either adding additional burden to resources already at capacity or bringing in external consultants to plug the gap which are costly and require significant onboarding time before they are fully effective. The central Transformation Development team leads interventions to remove these roadblocks and support these dependencies to ensure our portfolio continues to move forward at pace and achieve its objectives.
Despite our wide-ranging transformation portfolio, there are always more opportunities for improvement across our organisation. One of the priorities of the Transformation Development team is to select new opportunities that will have the largest impact for our movement. In order to achieve this, we first need to understand the pipeline of opportunities available and conduct feasibilities that enable us to make good strategic choices on which projects to take forward. These feasibilities consider the benefits case as well as the cost and wider organisational implications for potential projects.
A large part of the Transformation Development team is partnering and working with the Portfolio Management Office team, in order to ensure that there are sufficient project controls and governance in place, minimising risks and issues and ensuring progress against the project plan and budget.
Role Purpose
This role will report into the Business Analysis and Business Architecture function, supporting Business Analysts and Transformation teams in understanding business needs, analysing processes, and contributing to the delivery of change initiatives across the organisation. The intern will assist in bridging the gap between business stakeholders and technical teams by gathering requirements, documenting processes, and supporting solution design activities.
This internship offers a valuable opportunity to gain hands-on experience in business analysis within a global organisation. The intern will develop core analytical, stakeholder engagement, and problem-solving skills, while gaining exposure to real-world transformation challenges and learning how business analysis contributes to strategic decision-making and organisational change.
Principal Accountabilities
- Support the elicitation and documentation of business requirements, creating process maps and user stories, assisting in data analysis, and contributing to the production of high-quality project documentation.
- Support quality assurance activities by reviewing deliverables to ensure consistency, completeness, and alignment with agreed standards.
- Work closely with the Portfolio Management Office (PMO) and project teams to ensure that analysis outputs are effectively integrated into project delivery, supporting successful implementation and value realisation.
Experience and Skills
- Currently pursuing or recently graduated with a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as International Development, Business Administration, Project Management, or a related discipline.
- Strong organisational and multitasking abilities to manage various tasks including administrative duties, meeting coordination, and document management.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage positively with a diverse range of teams and stakeholders.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and familiarity with collaborative tools like SharePoint or Jira is desirable.
- Analytical thinking to assist in problem-solving.
- Experience in business analysis roles, possibly through previous internships or university projects which reflect experience in a structured environment working on complex tasks.
- Ability to work within a global team environment, demonstrating a commitment to organisational values, ethical conduct, and collaborative achievement across diverse teams and perspectives.
