Our Client seeks a Customs Clearance Administrator to join their Logistics and Operation Team. Reporting to the Shipping Manager, you will contribute to delivering their exciting vision to set a new benchmark in duty free retailing. This will be an excellent opportunity for you if the prospect of joining an entrepreneurial owner led business with a real sense of purpose excites you. The role is London based working in the office daily.
This is a new role created to respond to the growth we are experiencing since their stores opened in December 2020. The Customs Clearance Administrator will work closely with the (London based) Shipping manager and Merchandising team taking ownership of the end to end process of shipping their diverse range of private label and branded ranges from multiple jurisdictions with optimum efficiency. Close collaboration and communication are also required with the overseas store operation team to ensure the seamless clearance of goods on arrival in Bermuda.
Job responsibilities:- Handling the submission process for Caribbean customs clearance on import shipments, clearing alcohol from bonded warehouses, transferring stock from airside to landside storage, and clearing goods for wholesale business.
- Preparing the necessary documentation for customs clearance.
- Assigning the appropriate tariff codes to imported goods and managing the product tariff code summary.
- Calculating import duties and expenses for each product category.
- Submitting the customs clearance application through customs website.
- Coordinating with overseas customs to ensure the release of Declarations before the shipment arrives.
- Organizing local deliveries for both FCL and LCL shipments with the forwarder after customs clearance.
- Communicating with and providing updates to the store operations team regarding incoming deliveries, including sea, air, and courier shipments.
- Maintaining and updating the shipping summary for both import shipments and local deliveries.
- Monitoring and tracking the quantity of items cleared to landside store and for wholesale distribution.
- Previous experience in handling import shipment clearances is essential.
- Strong knowledge of product tariff codes.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, including the use of VLOOKUP or XLOOKUP functions and basic formulas.
- Attention to detail and strong numerical sensitivity.
- Self-motivated and capable of working independently, as well as collaborating effectively within a team.
- Adaptable and open to taking on evolving responsibilities, with a willingness to learn.
- Mature with the ability to apply critical thinking to solve problems.
- Strong communication skills, contributing to seamless communication between the London, New York, and Bermuda teams with the goal of achieving a one team approach.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and prioritize tasks efficiently.
- The ideal candidate will have at least 1 year of experience in customs clearance, with previous logistics experience being a must.
