Job Overview:

The Business Development and Marketing Manager will lead the development and execution of strategic initiatives to grow the firm’s client portfolio, enhance its market presence and promote its services across all practice areas and locations. This role demands a strategic mindset, creativity, exceptional social media proficiency and a passion for embracing innovation and technology to transform how the firm engages with clients and prospects. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with partners and fee earners to identify new business opportunities, strengthen client relationships and position the firm as a leader in the legal market.

Key Responsibilities:

Business Development:

  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities in Commercial Property, Litigation, Wills, LPA, Probate, and Corporate Law.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with existing and prospective clients, including individuals, businesses and referral partners (e.g. accountants, estate agents, financial advisors and corporate entities).
  • Conduct market research and competitor analysis to identify trends, competitor activities, and client needs within the SME legal sector, leveraging innovative tools and data analytics to inform strategic decisions.
  • Develop and implement targeted business development strategies, including digital lead generation, SEO optimisation and email marketing, to attract new clients and expand services.
  • Represent the firm at networking events, industry conferences /seminars and online forums to promote the firm and generate leads, utilising digital platforms to amplify visibility and engagement.
  • Collaborate with fee earners to create compelling pitches, proposals and tender submissions, incorporating interactive and tech-enhanced presentation tools where applicable.
  • Maintain and optimise CRM systems to track and enhance pipeline activity, client interactions, lead generation, conversion rates and revenue growth.

Marketing:

  • Lead the development of a multi-channel marketing strategy with a strong focus on social media platforms (e.g. FB, LinkedIn, X, Instagram, TikTok) to promote the firm’s services and enhance brand visibility.
  • To create, manage and optimise the firm’s online presence, creating engaging, high-quality content across social media platforms, the firm’s website and digital advertising campaigns to drive client engagement.
  • Leverage innovative technologies, such as AI-driven marketing tools, social media analytics and automation platforms to enhance campaign performance and target specific audiences.
  • Produce high quality marketing assets, including digital content, videos, blogs, infographics and client testimonials, tailored to each practice area.
  • Organise and promote firm-hosted events, (webinars, virtual workshops, live-streamed seminars, live Q&As) to showcase expertise in all practice areas, whilst ensuring maximum reach and engagement.
  • Collaborate with external agencies (e.g. PR, SEO, content creators/designers) to deliver innovative and integrated campaigns whilst maintaining brand consistency across digital and traditional channels.
  • Monitor and analyse social media and marketing campaign performance using analytic dashboards, regularly providing detailed reports to the senior leadership team on ROI, engagement and growth.

Client Relationship Management:

  • Act as a key point of contact for client engagement activities, using CRM and automation technology- (e.g. CRM platforms, automated follow-ups) to enhance service delivery and client satisfaction.
  • Develop and implement client retention strategies, leveraging social media and digital tools to strengthen long-term relationships and encourage repeat business and referrals.
  • Gather and analyse client feedback through online surveys or digital platforms to inform service improvements and identify cross-selling opportunities across all practice areas.

Internal Collaboration:

  • Work closely with partners and fee earners to align business development and marketing efforts with the firm’s strategic goals, integrating innovative tools and technologies.
  • Deliver training and workshops to legal staff on how best to leverage social media and technology to enhance and effectively manage client relationships, increase engagement and develop robust business development strategies.
  • Promote the firm’s diversity and inclusion initiatives to a broad client base via inclusive and accessible digital campaigns.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Communications or a related field (legal sector experience is a plus).
  • 3–5 years of experience in business development, marketing, or a related role, with a strong focus on social media management, ideally within the legal or professional services sector.
  • Proven and extensive expertise in managing social media platforms (e.g., FB, LinkedIn, X, Instagram, TikTok) .
  • Proven and extensive experience of creating high-impact engaging, platform-specific content that drives audience interaction.
  • Proven and extensive track record of using innovative technologies, such as AI-powered marketing tools, analytic software, or automation platforms, to enhance marketing and business development outcomes.
  • Strong understanding of the legal market, particularly in Commercial Property, Litigation, Wills, LPA, Probate, and Corporate Law.
  • Demonstrated success in generating leads, building client relationships and driving revenue growth through social media and digital strategies.
  • Excellent communication, client / stakeholder engagement and project management skills, across all digital and in-person channels.
  • Proficiency in digital marketing tools, including social media management platforms (Hootsuite, Buffer, Canva, HubSpot, Salesforce), content management systems and analytics tools (e.g. Google Analytics, LinkedIn Ads).
  • Strategic thinker with a creative mindset, strong organisational skills, a passion for innovation and the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced SME environment.
  • Knowledge of CRM systems (e.g. Salesforce, HubSpot) and emerging technologies in marketing or client management is highly desirable.
  • Experience of working in an SME or legal environment, with an understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities in this setting.
  • Familiarity with the local market and established professional networks in the North-East of England.
  • Creative mindset with a passion for embracing new and innovative technological approaches to marketing and business development in the legal sector, thereby ensuring continuous improvements across all areas of the business.
  • Ability to translate complex legal services into accessible, client-friendly messaging.
