Description
We are seeking an exceptional Senior Scientist to join our Process Chemistry Team within the Biosensing and In Vivo Performance Department. This team is critical to sensor development, focusing on process optimisation to seamlessly integrate raw materials (synthesis) and sensor manufacturing to build a product which will have an impact worldwide. This integration is essential for enhancing device performance and scaling up from small-scale R&D to high-throughput manufacturing processes. The ideal candidate will have: demonstrated excellence in process science, chemistry, or biotechnology; a solid understanding of designing characterisation trials to assess parameters impacting sensor performance and, ultimately, the overall functionality of our biosensors; and a relentless drive to raise the bar and redefine boundaries.
What You’ll Do
- Work within the Process Chemistry Team to develop and characterise the sensor build process to optimise the materials and process steps involved in manufacturing a minimally invasive biosensor platform.
- Collaborate with the Chemistry, Process, Manufacturing and Engineering teams to implement material and process changes for optimisation of sensor performance.
- Develop new protocols to further the understanding of various aspects of materials and processes used in sensor manufacture and performance.
- Develop explorative trials, including DoE trials, that investigate material and process parameters to optimise sensor performance.
- Utilise analytical techniques to understand how material characteristics impact sensor manufacturing and device function.
- Coordinate and complete in vitro testing to determine the performance of novel candidate materials used in sensor manufacture.
- Generate, analyse and report data to the team and wider company, verbally and in writing.
- Maintain detailed, up to date records of experiments and data analysis.
- Research and source new equipment to support critical research areas.
- Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to coordinate projects, managing deadlines and requirements in parallel to advance device development.
What We’re Looking For
- BSc degree or above, plus lab experience in a relevant discipline (e.g., biomedical science, bioengineering, materials science) working with process development and characterisation.
- A multidisciplinary background is advantageous. The candidate will be expected to work cross-functionally with teams including Biosensing, Synthetic Chemistry, Manufacturing, Data and Engineering, which may include: process characterisation, new material investigation, medical device manufacture, sterilisation, in vitro testing, enzyme stability and activity, microscopy (Keyence experience), operation of inkjet systems.
- Proactive not reactive, highly organised and adaptable. The desire to get hands-on in the lab every day, the ability and ambition to learn new skills and techniques quickly, manage variable workstreams at a time and to deal with the fast pace of a startup environment.
- Excellent knowledge and experience in experimental design, including DoEs.
- Presentation and communication of data to both technical and non-technical audiences with active participation in meetings and discussions.
- Willingness to work hard when needed and to go above and beyond, because you care about making a difference.
Bonus Points
- Experience in lab and manufacturing environments (preferred clean room experience but not essential).
- Experience with and knowledge of biosensors or medical devices
- Experience in the operation of inkjet systems and larger robotics (at operator level following protocol).
- Skilled with data analysis and visualisation software and tools (e.g., JMP, python, R, MATLAB).
- Biosensor or Medical Device Industry experience, working on process characterisation and optimisation.
Why Sava?
This is a high-ownership, high-responsibility role in a company that’s building something complex, meaningful, and fast. The expectations are high, the learning curve is steep, and the work is often messy, but the impact is real.
We don’t have room for egos or passengers. What we do have is a team of thoughtful, driven, and mission-aligned people who are committed to building something better, and doing it with urgency and integrity.
