Place of Work/Group Company: Nijhuis Saur Industries UK and Ireland, Remote, with travel to our Stoke office as/when required. Travel across the UK, occasional overseas trips may be required.
Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled and proactive Delivery & Support Engineer with strong experience in on-site installation, commissioning, troubleshooting diagnostics to join a growing digital function within a larger business in the water sector. This role involves designing, building and wiring communications and sensor hardware, configuring equipment, and installing systems in real-world environments. It involves the deployment, operation, support and optimisation of hardware to enable digital services across cloud, on-premises, and edge environments. This role is essential in enabling the digital transformation of the larger business while ensuring robust and effective integration of technologies to leverage business data and provision of exceptional digital service to internal and external stakeholders.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Delivery and Deployment: Manage the end-to-end delivery of communications services across cloud, on-premises, and edge environments. Configure systems, apply updates, and maintain clear documentation. Collaborate with development, IT, and operations teams to ensure smooth delivery and integration of digital solutions.
- On-Premises, Cloud, and Networking System Management: Monitor and optimize on-premises, cloud, and hybrid environments. Maintain servers and network configurations (VPNs, VLANs, firewalls). Proactively identify and resolve network, cloud, and system issues to minimize downtime.
- Edge Device and Signal Integration: Install and configure edge devices and sensors. Manage OTA updates and ensure reliable data exchange (e.g., Modbus). Diagnose and optimize signal processing between devices.
- Technical Support & Issue Resolution: Act as primary contact for troubleshooting across systems. Provide hands‑on support and train internal teams. Document fixes and share knowledge for future efficiency.
- Security and Compliance: Apply security best practices and maintain compliance logs. Ensure secure configurations and data protection.
- Collaboration and Innovation: Work with development, operations, and IT teams to improve system design, delivery pipelines, and operational workflows. Identify and implement tools for automation and efficiency. Share expertise and mentor colleagues on best practices.
Required Skills/Qualifications:
- Experience in on-site installation, commissioning, and diagnostics.
- Ability to build configure hardware equipment and integrate sensors and controllers.
- Familiarity with analogue/digital signals and protocols (e.g., Modbus).
- Comfortable with basic networking (VPNs, VLANs, firewalls) and system configuration.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and practical problem-solving ability.
- Strong experience with deploying communications equipment.
- Hands‑on knowledge of edge computing platforms, IoT device management, and signal integration.
- Networking knowledge, including firewalls, VLANs, VPNs, DNS, DHCP, and routing protocols.
- Understanding of analogue and digital signalling, with practical experience in Modbus communication protocols.
- Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues across cloud, networking, and edge environments.
Preferred Skills:
- Engineering degree (Electrical, Mechanical, or similar).
- Experience with containerization and orchestration tools (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
- Familiarity with monitoring and logging solutions (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk).
- Exposure to security best practices, including secure boot, PKI, and vulnerability management.
- Experience with automation and scripting (e.g., PowerShell, Bash, Python).

Education and Experience:
- Preferably Engineering bachelor’s degree in electrical, Mechanical or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- 3+ years of experience in hardware delivery and commissioning, infrastructure engineering or similar experience.
Working for us means:
- The salary is between £45,000 & £55,000 per year, depending on your professional experience.
- Holidays 25 + Bank Holidays, buy & sell scheme available.
- Probationary Period – 6 months.
- Pension – Can join immediately or auto enrolled after 3 months - Employee 5% and Employer 5% via salary sacrifice.
- Eligible to join Private Healthcare after successfully completing probation.
- Enrolled in Group Income Protection and Death in Service (4 x basic salary) upon commencement of employment.
- Notice – 1 week during probation, increasing to 1 month thereafter.
