The Consultant Formula One Fuels Development is responsible for leading the technical development and delivery of sustainable Formula One fuel solutions across the full value chain, from research and formulation through to trackside deployment and performance validation for the Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team. The role applies deep technical expertise and analytical insight to drive the fuels development workstream, ensuring alignment between fuel design, engineering requirements, and race performance objectives. It oversees formulation development, regulatory approvals, and race-level quality control, ensuring operational excellence across sourcing, formulation, and deployment while enabling fuel-driven performance gains within the FIA 2026 sustainable fuel regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Technical Leadership – F1 Fuels Domain: Provide advanced subject matter expertise in fuel chemistry and development, leading the design, testing, and optimisation of sustainable F1 fuel formulations to meet performance, regulatory, and operational requirements.
- Programme & Delivery Ownership: Lead and coordinate the F1 fuels development workstream, ensuring effective planning, prioritisation, budgeting and execution of activities across research, testing, and operational phases.
- Stakeholder Coordination & Integration: Act as the primary technical interface across internal and external stakeholders, ensuring alignment of priorities.
- External Partner & Supplier Management: Build and maintain strong working relationships with external technical partners and suppliers.
- Informal Leadership & Capability Development: Provide technical guidance and informal leadership to the geographically distributed science team.
- Trackside & Operational Integration: Ensure seamless integration between fuel development activities and trackside operations.
- Compliance & Regulatory Assurance: Ensure all fuel products and processes comply with FIA technical regulations and applicable industry standards.
- Data-Driven Performance Optimisation: Oversee the collection, interpretation, and application of technical and operational data to drive continuous improvement in fuel performance.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Support the development of sustainable fuel solutions in alignment with FIA regulations.
- Use the organisation's formal development framework to identify the team's individual development needs.
- Develop and propose own performance objectives; take appropriate actions to ensure achievement of agreed objectives.
- Develop own capabilities by participating in assessment and development planning activities.
Education:
Master's Degree or equivalent level in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field. In lieu of a formal university degree, substantial and progressively responsible professional experience within the relevant job family may be considered equivalent.
Experience:
Typically requires 15+ years of relevant experience in own area of expertise to fully competent level. Subject matter expert level in fuels chemistry is highly desirable.
