Position: RF and Antenna System Engineer
Location: Harwell Campus, Didcot, Oxfordshire
Antenna is an exciting and challenging subject right at the core of all wireless telecommunication systems. This is particularly true in nascent, yet fast-growing high-data-rate broadband internet services provided by LEO/MEO satellites or HAPS, where both antenna performance, reliability and costs are put to the test.

Based at Harwell Science and Innovation Campus – the UK\’s Space Cluster, Satraka enjoys a highly dynamic and exciting environment and access to a range of world-class facilities & expertise such as RAL Space, Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) and Satellite Applications Catapult.
Satraka’s mission is to connect the unconnected and serve the underserved with its innovative, cutting-edge tracking-beam antenna technologies, providing reliable broadband internet connections via LEO/MEO satellites, HAPS and terrestrial 4G/5G network anywhere and anytime.
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated RF and Antenna System Engineer to join our dynamic engineering team. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, testing, and maintaining RF and Antenna solutions for a variety of innovative tracking antennas and user terminals.
Main Duties
• Define system level and sub-system level requirements including link budget, G/T and EIRP.
• Define and qualify system components and interfaces, including telecom 4G/5G radios, satcom LNAs and BUCs.
• Conduct component and system level testing, user terminal qualification testing.
• Working alongside mechanical engineering, providing integrated RF/Mechanical solutions and structure design for antennas and user terminals.
• Responsible for full life cycle of product development—design, analysis, build through test and delivery.
• Documentation writing for design, analysis, manufacturing, assembly, integration and test.
• Responsible for defining and carrying out RF, antenna and user terminal testing and verification activities.
• Provide expertise to Business Development team in preparing technical proposals.
• Interpret and negotiate technical requirements, design solutions and trade-offs with customers.
• Responsible for technology horizon-scanning, maintaining industry-awareness, market- trends, and maintaining academic links to feed into internal developments and future product programmes.
• Provide technical support to manufacturing and assembly activities.
• Manage work schedule, resources and risks to ensure quality, on-time and on-cost delivery.
• Work closely with the Project Manager(s) to ensure successful completion of overall project.
Skills and Experience
• Strong Bachelor’s degree or above in Physics, Electronics/Electrical Engineering related subjects.
• High level of understanding of RF, radio and antenna theory and engineering.
• Good working knowledge and demonstrable experience of RF, radio and antenna product design.
• Good working knowledge and demonstrable experience of using one or more of the following RF software packages; CST Microwave, HFSS and Ticra.
• Good working knowledge and demonstrable experience of RF, antenna and user terminal testing including using equipment such as vector network analyser.
• Innovative thinking – able to work through technical requirements to create robust design solutions using own initiative and the ability to critique own ideas.
• A good appreciation of mechanical and thermal properties of engineering materials and their practical implementation.
• Pragmatic and logical approach to problem solving –able to find simple solutions to complex problems and to communicate those solutions to non-RF audience.
• Able to understand new technical concepts quickly.
• Excellent technical English written/verbal communication and presentation skills.
