We have a vacancy for a Technologist to join SATRA's Safety Product Testing department. SATRA's Safety Product Testing team conducts testing on a wide range of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for a global customer base, to ensure products meet a minimum level of protection. PPE tested includes gloves, fall protection, motorcycle garments, high visibility clothing, eyewear, helmets, hearing protection, chainsaw garments, kneepads, sports protection, plus many more.
The department consists of a series of accredited laboratories, housing a range of test equipment and machines, used by the team to test the physical properties of PPE against International and European standards. Results from testing are reported to customers and used for their product development or to apply for CE or UKCA certification. The Safety Product Testing team consists of around 25 multiskilled technicians, technologists and other support staff, arranging and conducting the testing of PPE.
As a Technologist within the Safety Products Testing team, you will be required to carry out the following:
- Carry out routine physical testing in accordance with International and European standards to deadlines
- Operation of test equipment to generate results which are recorded in hard copy and electronic form
- Generate reports containing results of physical testing conducted
- Customer liaison via email, over the telephone and in person
- Handle technical enquiries to provide guidance to customers and instructions on what testing is required
- Input enquiry data and update jobs using Dynamics software
- Continuous improvement of SATRA's facilities and procedures, continually seeking opportunities to develop and grow business
- Full training will be provided for all aspects of the role where required
Good computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) are necessary. Knowledge and experience with manufacturing of PPE such as Hi-Vis, FR, chemical suits and motorcycle clothing is preferred. Experience of using a database system (Dynamics if possible) is also beneficial. A good understanding of the SATRA quality management system or an external QMS is required. Experience of travel may be necessary.
