We have a full-time vacancy for a Test Engineer to work in our Safety Product Testing department.
About The Department
SATRA's Safety Product Testing team conducts testing on a wide range of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for a global customer base, to ensure products meet a minimum level of protection. PPE tested includes gloves, fall protection, motorcycle garments, high visibility clothing, eyewear, helmets, hearing protection, chainsaw garments, kneepads, sports protection, plus many more. The department consists of a number of accredited laboratories, housing a range of test equipment and machines, used by the team to test the physical properties of PPE against International and European standards. Results from testing are reported to customers and used for their product development or to apply for CE or UKCA certification. The Safety Product Testing team consists of around 25 multiskilled technicians, technologists and other support staff, arranging and conducting the testing of PPE.
About The Role
This vacancy is predominantly for the Fall Protection PPE area and will involve testing of items such as harnesses, lanyards, energy absorbers, connectors and rescue equipment. Testing is carried out throughout the year both indoors and outdoors, some testing is carried out at height (up to 8m from ground level).
As a Test Engineer within the Safety Products Testing team, you will be required to carry out the following:
- Undertake routine physical testing of PPE in accordance with International and European standards at SATRA and customer facilities
- Operating test equipment to generate results which are recorded on paperwork and electronic sheets in preparation for transfer to test reports
- Preparation of test samples prior to testing
- Maintain tidiness of laboratory
- Maintain sample storages
- Assist Technologist when dealing with customers during visits and seminars
- Working to and understanding the SATRA quality system and UKAS requirements
- Working to and understanding SATRA's health and safety requirements
Full training will be provided for all aspects of the role where required.
About You
Essential
- Hold GCSEs (or equivalent) in the subjects of English, Mathematics and Science minimum grade C.
- Be highly organised, enthusiastic and able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Competent in the use of Microsoft Office products, in particular MS Excel and MS Word.
- Be able to accurately follow testing procedures and methods
- Able to travel in UK and overseas (potentially up to a month at a time and for 50% of your time annually)
- Driving license and Passport

- Able and willing to be involved in carrying out testing where needed
