Working Hours: 8:30am 4:30pm, Monday, Wednesday & Friday
Job Type: Part Time (Three days per week)
About Us
At Sash Window Restorations, we specialise in the repair, restoration, and manufacture of traditional wooden sash windows, timber casement windows, front entrance doors, and French doors. Based in Brighton, we work in customers' homes across Sussex. We pride ourselves on delivering high-quality craftsmanship and fostering strong relationships with our customers.
As demand for our services continues to grow, we're expanding our team and looking to welcome an additional Sash Window Surveyor. In this role, youll work closely alongside our experienced surveyor, visiting customers in their homes to carry out assessments and consultations. Your contribution will help us maintain the high level of service and care our customers have come to expect.
Main Purpose of the Role
As a Surveyor, your primary responsibility will be to visit customers homes to assess the condition of their sash windows, doors, and related joinery. Youll provide detailed recommendations for repairs, restorations, or replacements, and take precise measurements to inform our manufacturing and project planning processes.
Youll also be responsible for generating quotes and estimates; however, our in-house systems handle most of the pricing work for you. As long as you have a good understanding of the technical requirements and can accurately measure and describe the work needed, our system will produce accurate quotes, ensuring consistency and efficiency.
This makes the role well-suited to someone with strong technical skills, even if they have limited experience in pricing or estimating.
Key Responsibilities
- Assessing Condition: Evaluate the structural integrity and operational issues of sash windows, timber casement windows, and doors, identifying problems such as rotten timber, condensation, draughts, or noise issues.
- Recommending Solutions: Provide expert advice and solutions tailored to the customers needs, recommending the best course of action for repairs, restoration, or replacements.
- Precise Measurements: Take accurate measurements for joinery manufacturing, ensuring the correct production of components for each project.
- Using Technology: Regularly use a tablet and computer to prepare detailed quotes, update records, and communicate with both the office team and customers. Confidence with Word, email, and basic software tools is essential.
- Understanding Drawings: Ability to interpret window drawings and communicate these effectively with the office and production team.
- Estimating Work: While our system will handle much of the pricing, you will need to understand the technical aspects to ensure that the system-generated quotes are correct.
- Customer Engagement: Engage with customers to understand their concerns and preferences, ensuring that quotes and recommendations are aligned with their priorities.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Customer Rapport: Ability to build strong relationships with customers, ensuring a positive experience throughout the project lifecycle.
- Written Communication: Strong written communication skills for preparing clear and concise reports, emails, and assessments.
- Tech Proficiency: Confident using tablets and computers for emails, preparing quote notes, and navigating basic business software.
- Understanding Drawings: Ability to understand and work with window drawings and diagrams.
- Communication: Excellent verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical information clearly and confidently.
- Organisation & Time Management: Ability to manage time effectively, ensuring visits, quotes, and emails are completed efficiently.
Requirements
- Full UK Driving Licence: A clean, valid UK driving licence is essential.
- Company Van: You will be provided with a new company van fitted with Apple Car Play, sat-nav, parking sensors, and air conditioning for ease of travel to customer sites.
Desirable Skills
- Surveying Experience: Previous experience in surveying and estimating within the timber window industry or a related construction or restoration field is highly valued.
- Carpentry/Joinery Background: Hands-on experience in carpentry or joinery is a strong advantage, particularly if it provides a solid understanding of window and door installations or repair work. This practical knowledge translates well into a surveying role.
Why Join Us?
At Sash Window Restorations, we offer a competitive salary, a supportive working environment, and opportunities for professional development. Youll have the chance to work alongside our existing surveyor and a skilled team in a role that combines technical expertise with customer interaction, making every project unique and rewarding.
You will also gain experience working on a range of joinery projects, from sash windows to timber casement windows, front entrance doors, and French doors, and benefit from the use of our in-house pricing systems, which simplify the estimation process. This allows you to focus on your technical expertise without worrying about complex pricing calculations.
