About the job
The Platform Product division is looking for an Associate Software Developer tojoin a team of talented engineers working collaboratively to build and deliver cutting edge, innovative products that enable the building of scalable solutions for SAS customers. You will join a team building one of SAS’ flagship products – SAS Visual Investigator. SAS Visual Investigator is used around the world by thousands of users at hundreds of customers in a multitude of different sectors such as banking, insurance and policing. You will make an impact on how customers experience and interact with our software and play a crucial role in ensuring the quality of our products exceed their expectations.
As an Associate Software Developer, you will:
- Designs and develops high quality, testable and scalable software solutions within established timelines while adhering to R&D best practices and processes.
- Activelyinvolves other project stakeholders (e.g. managers, developers, user interface and visual designers, product managers) to ensure implementation satisfies functional requirements and is consistent with established R&D standards.
- Participates in project scoping and scheduling; tracks progress of individual tasks and alerts stakeholders of issues blocking or preventing completion of task.
- Ensures quality through functional, unit and performance testing; works closely with testing by providing thorough reviews of the test plan and communicates when updates to the plan should be made to cover code changes related to enhancements, redesigns and/or bug fixes.
- Maintains accountability for the entire life cycle of the code including support for both internal and external consumers.
- In collaboration with technical writers, authors appropriate level of design and technical documentation that satisfies both internal and external consumers
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor\’s degree in relevent field, preferably Computer Science or Software Engineering (or equivalent practical experience).
- Software Development Experience: Demonstrated experience in building applications through coursework or internships, with a focus on performance optimization and best practices. This may include web application development using TypeScript/JavaScript, HTML, and CSS, or backend development involving RESTful APIs in Java or similar languages.
- Problem Solving Skills: Demonstrated ability to diagnose and analyse complex technical challenges, and implement effective solutions
- GitHub Proficiency: Experience using GitHub for version control, including managing repositories, branching strategies, pull requests, and collaboration workflows to enhance team productivity and code quality
- Knowledge of current software trends and emerging technologies: to evaluate their impact on development practices and apply relevant innovations to enhance our software development practices.
- Equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered in place of the above qualifications.

- Accessible web development: experience building web applications with a strong focus on accessibility, following WCAG standards to ensure an inclusive user experience for people with disabilities.
- Automated UI testing: Exposure to any with automated UI test frameworks.
- Project management tools: Experience in using project management tools like Jira for task tracking, sprint planning, and collaboration.
- Continuous Integration (CI) Proficiency: Hands-on experience with CI systems such as GitHub Actions or Jenkins to ensure efficient and reliable software delivery.
- Generative AI: Understanding of the current state of LLMs, Generative AI and their usage.
- Containerization and Orchestration Experience: including creating, deploying, and managing containerized applications using tools such as Docker or Kubernetes
- Experience conducting code reviews: providing clear feedback to improve code quality, maintainability and adherence to best practices.
