Manager, Software Develoment - Generative AI

b Overview /b p In this role you lead the engineering team building SAS’s central Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) platform, enabling secure discovery, indexing, and grounding of information for GenAI features. You’ll partner with cross-functional teams to deliver scalable, high-quality software within R D standards and drive the enterprise RAG initiative forward. You’ll shape product direction, ensure security-compliant development, and foster an inclusive, high-performance engineering culture. This is a chance to impact how SAS connects trusted knowledge with GenAI at scale. /p b Responsibilities /b ul li Organize, develop, prioritize, and assign resources to deliver scalable software within timelines and R D standards /li li Lead designs and enforce technical standards across supported environments /li li Coordinate with stakeholders (managers, developers, UI/UX, product managers) to ensure requirements alignment /li li Manage scoping, scheduling, and progress tracking; communicate risks to executives /li li Oversee product quality through thorough testing and collaboration with development and QA teams /li li Drive enhancements, redesigns, and bug fixes through resource prioritization /li li Contribute to product direction via collaboration with Product Management, Marketing, Sales, and customers /li li Oversee department management including performance, growth, and collaboration with HR and leadership /li li Ensure adherence to security policies supporting secure software development /li li Promote values of curiosity, authenticity, accountability /li li Support cross-functional collaboration to accelerate delivery /li li Mentor and develop engineers to build inclusive, accountable culture /li /ul b Key requirements /b ul li 8+ years in programming or testing with at least 1 year in a lead/management role /li li Bachelor in Computer Science (or equivalent quantitative field) /li li Strong knowledge of generative AI with languages such as Golang, Python /li li Proven ability to lead and develop software engineers, set goals, provide feedback, and manage performance /li li Strong decision-making and problem-solving abilities /li li Ability to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines /li li Right to work in the UK /li li Equivalent combination of education and experience considered /li /ul ul li leadership and people management /li li collaboration across cross-functional teams /li li adaptability to changing priorities /li li generative AI knowledge /li li Golang /li li Python /li /ul
