Join our Product Development team as an experienced Mechanical Engineer to work on the lifecycle maintenance of our existing products. We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer to join our Product Development team at Sartorius in the UK. In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining the lifecycle of our existing products. You will develop product enhancements, work with colleagues in the Operations team to solve quality and reliability issues, and with Field Service teams to ensure that our products continue to lead the market. You must be comfortable providing Technical Leadership for iterative product updates, performance and reliability improvements.
The team currently consists of 6 professionals, and we are looking forward to shaping the future with you. You will be part of a team of Engineers, including Mechanical, Design, Electronics and Electrical. They work closely with other key stakeholders including Software Development, Product Management, Development Scientist and Operations teams to ensure that product designs meet the essential requirements for commercial success. This position is available full-time. You will be based at our Royston site, with hybrid working available. The site is a short walk from Royston train station, on the Cambridge to London route and close to the A505.
Grow with us – Your Responsibilities- On a daily basis you will take responsibility for all aspects of mechanical design, from initial concept through to production release.
- Have a broad working knowledge of other engineering disciplines.
- Be able to demonstrate a track record of developing designs that achieve cost and quality targets within agreed timescales.
- Lead and/or participate in design reviews to ensure that designs meet their required specifications.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders and suppliers to identify, implement and record engineering design changes.
- Support a process of continuous improvement to help ensure that programme targets are met.
- Follow the company’s engineering processes to ensure appropriate quality is designed into all products.
- BSc or MSc (2:1) in Mechanical or in Systems Engineering with a strong mechanical bias.
- Experience of work on complex systems or scientific instruments for low to medium volume manufacture (approximately 100 units per year) would be beneficial.
- Experience in developing the mechanical aspects of complex systems containing hardware, electronics and software, ideally for life science, biological or laboratory-based applications, though candidates from other industries will also be considered (i.e.: automotive, aerospace etc.).
- Robotics, materials handling and mechanism design.
- Providing leadership in small teams of technical personnel whose remit includes the specification, procurement, build and commissioning of automated equipment.
- Taking designs from prototype, through development and into production release for established manufactured products.
- Experience of development of consumable products for use in automated equipment.
- Knowledge of sensor technologies, biological processes (fermentation and cell culture) would be beneficial.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Good planning skills and commercial awareness.
- A creative and inquisitive approach to work.
