Join our Product Development team in Royston as a Firmware Engineer, on a 12 month fixed term contract. In this role you will design, implement and test embedded software | firmware to provide machine control solutions for integrated electronics. The team currently consists of 5 professionals and we are looking forward to shaping the future with you. This position is available full-time on a 12 month fixed term contract. You will be based at our Royston site, with hybrid working available.
Grow With Us – Your Responsibilities
- On a daily basis you will design, implement and test communication interfaces in conjunction with the high level software development team.
- Creation, migration, extension and integration of firmware business logic and drivers for microprocessor applications.
- Developing and executing suitable test plans to demonstrate functionality of the embedded software | firmware solutions. These include unit, module and integration testing.
- Contribute to and organise design reviews with peers and other groups from across the business.
- Develop and maintain documentation to support integration and maintenance activities.
What Will Convince Us
- BSc or MSc in Electronics, Electrical Engineering or Computer Science with Embedded Software Engineering or equivalent experience.
- Familiar with Embedded software design and implementation for embedded control and automation purposes.
- Experience of implementing solutions on STM32H7 processors or similar, including development and maintenance of peripheral drivers.
- Confident implementing bespoke communication protocols over Ethernet and serial interfaces such as RS232 and RS485.
- Enjoy working closely with integrated engineering teams, including the specification, development, testing and commissioning of high value laboratory equipment.
- Previous experience of developing and maintaining build pipelines and incorporating automated testing into those pipelines.
- Previous experience of working as part of an Agile team using dev-ops tools such as Azure DevOps.
- C | C++ for embedded software | firmware solutions using RTOS or Super Loop architectures.
- Knowledge of serial and ethernet communication protocols.
- Strong planning skills where attention to detail is key.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities, have a problem solving approach where persistence is key to finding solutions.
