Join our project team in Product Development at our Royston site. We are looking for an Electrical and Electronics Engineer to join our Product Development team at Sartorius in the UK. In this role, you will be responsible for the electrical engineering aspects of product development and lifecycle support, conducting prototype and development activities in our project team. This position is available full-time on a fixed-term period until the end of March 2027. You will be based at our Royston site, with hybrid working available. The site is 10 minutes’ walk from the train station and just off A505 so it’s easy to get to.

Your Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, commission and validate electrical solutions that provide power and signal distributions, and control for electro-mechanical systems.
  • Design, develop, commission and validate electronic solutions that provide and enable machine control and signal conditioning functionality.
  • Apply and use electrical and electronic engineering principles in the creation of designs and solutions that meet the system’s stipulated requirements.
  • Ensure that all your electrical and electronics solutions are engineered and designed in accordance with the necessary regulations and standards, including EU’s Low Voltage Directive, the UK’s Electrical Equipment Safety Regulations, the USA’s NFPA 79 and various EMC regulations and standards.
  • Develop technologies to interface between hardware, electronic and software elements of our products.
  • Provide support and training for safety testing of systems in various stages of manufacturing.
  • Contribute to and organise design reviews with peers and other groups from across the business.

What will convince us

  • BSc/BEng or MSc/MEng in Electrical and Electronics, or an HND in Electrical and Electronics with equivalent experience.
  • Experience in electrical and electronic product design and development with an understanding of the product life cycle ideally in laboratory automation, or pharmaceutical manufacturing environment following ISO/IEC and/or GMP standards, though candidates from other industries will also be considered.
  • Hands-on experience in electrical and electronic engineering in prototyping, engineering, design and testing.
  • Electrical/electronic communication protocols and hardware, such as RS232, RS422, RS485, USB and Ethernet.
  • Analogue electronics design including small signal handling and processing for input into microcontrollers.
  • Using electrical CAD tools to capture electrical engineering designs.
  • Using electronic CAD packages for schematic capture and PCBA layout.
  • Knowledge of digital and analogue electronics design.
  • Working knowledge of global electrical regulations and international standards (eg.: EN 12100, EN 60204, IEC 61010 -1).
  • Working knowledge of global EMC regulations and international standards (eg.: EN 61326, FCC Part 15).
  • Strong planning skills.
  • Natural ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Strong documentation and communications skills (plans, requirements, drawings, design reviews, and test methods).
  • Adaptable, self-motivated and proactive team player with good problem-solving skills.
