We are working with a well established Building Control service that is looking to appoint an experienced Building Control Surveyor. This is a great opportunity for a professional who enjoys a varied workload, autonomy in their role, and working closely with clients, contractors and design teams to ensure high standards of compliance and safety.

The Role

As a Building Control Surveyor, you will work closely with the Building Control Manager and wider team to support the delivery of a high quality Building Control service. The role offers a mix of plan checking, site inspections and technical advisory work across a broad range of projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess Full Plans applications for compliance with Building Regulations and associated legislation, issuing approvals, conditional approvals or rejections
  • Review Building Notices and Regularisation applications and request additional information where required
  • Assess Approved Inspector Notices and Certificates for compliance
  • Record and manage fees in line with the Building Prescribed Fees Regulations
  • Carry out site inspections at all stages of construction to ensure compliance with relevant legislation, standards and guidance
  • Attend dangerous structure situations, providing professional advice and coordinating with emergency services and contractors where required
  • Respond to technical enquiries from clients, members of the public and other stakeholders, providing clear and practical advice
  • Keep up to date with changes in legislation, construction methods, materials and best practice
  • Liaise with internal teams and external partners to support effective service delivery
  • Undertake enforcement action where necessary and in line with legislation
  • Maintain accurate records, reports, correspondence and inspection data
  • Prepare evidence, statements and reports for hearings, enquiries or legal proceedings when required
  • Prepare statutory notices, licences and related documentation including those relating to demolition and dangerous structures
  • Escalate complex or contentious matters to the Building Control Manager
  • Take part in performance reviews, training and ongoing professional development
  • Support wider service delivery and business continuity as required

About You

Qualifications and Knowledge

  • Degree qualified in Building Surveying with relevant experience or professional membership of MRICS, CABE, CIOB or equivalent
  • Registered as a Class 2 Building Inspector with the Building Safety Regulator
  • Strong knowledge of the Building Act, Building Regulations and current construction practices

Skills and Experience

  • Confident communicator able to work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders
  • IT literate with experience using Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel
  • Able to produce clear reports and maintain accurate records
  • Strong decision making and problem solving skills
  • Previous experience working within a Building Control environment

Personal Attributes

  • Self motivated and able to manage workload with minimal supervision
  • Collaborative and comfortable working as part of a team
  • Flexible and adaptable in response to changing priorities

Additional Requirements

  • Full driving licence and access to suitable transport
  • Reliable and comfortable managing a demanding workload
