We are working with a well established and growing transport planning consultancy to recruit an Assistant / Graduate Transport Planner to join their London team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone early in their career to gain hands on experience across a wide range of development projects while being supported by experienced transport planners in a collaborative and commercially aware environment.
The Opportunity
You will support senior team members across multiple projects, helping to deliver high quality transport planning advice for developments of all shapes and sizes. This includes small residential schemes through to major mixed use, regeneration and strategic sites across the UK. The role is based in Central London with flexibility for hybrid working.
Key Responsibilities
- Supporting project teams with day to day technical input across a variety of transport planning projects
- Assisting in the preparation of Transport Assessments, Transport Statements and supporting planning submission documents
- Preparing Travel Plans and Travel Packs and contributing ideas around sustainable travel initiatives
- Collecting, processing and analysing project data including traffic counts and public transport usage
- Providing assistance with technical and design work where required including CAD and swept path analysis
- Working collaboratively with colleagues across different disciplines to support project delivery and broaden planning knowledge
- Liaising with wider project teams and engaging with planning and highway officers including attending meetings and workshops
- Delivering work to a high professional standard accurately and within agreed timescales
About You
You will ideally have:
- Around one year of experience in a transport planning or closely related role although graduates with strong placement or internship experience will also be considered
- A genuine interest in transport planning topics such as active travel, placemaking, healthy streets, spatial planning, transport policy and junction mitigation
- An understanding of the UK planning system and how transport planning supports it including NPPF and the London Plan
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the confidence to engage with both internal teams and external stakeholders
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Exposure to technical tools such as AutoCAD, TRICS, TEMPRO, Junctions 9, GIS and Census data although not all are essential
- A flexible and proactive approach with a willingness to support colleagues during busier periods
