ReFood is a leading food waste recycling and renewable energy company, transforming food waste into sustainable energy and valuable resources. We are looking for a skilled and motivated Fitter / Welder to join our Dagenham site. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced fabricator and welder who enjoys working in a heavy industrial environment and wants to expand their mechanical engineering knowledge. We invest heavily in training and development, offering opportunities to gain additional qualifications such as Confined Space Entry, Plant Operations, and other specialist competencies.
Working closely with the Engineering Team, you will be responsible for measuring, fabricating, assembling, and welding stainless steel and low carbon steel (LCS) pipework, frameworks, flanges, and associated components to required specifications. You will also support maintenance activities across the site while contributing to our culture of continuous improvement. Weekend working and overtime may occasionally be required to support high-priority maintenance activities. Any overtime will be agreed in advance with your manager.
Key Responsibilities
- Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications
- Measure, cut, shape, and prepare metal materials for fabrication
- Assemble and align fabricated components to ensure accurate fit and functionality
- Perform TIG, MIG, and Arc welding to a high standard
- Inspect completed work to ensure quality, accuracy, and compliance with specifications
- Repair damaged metal structures, machinery, and equipment components
- Safely operate hand tools, power tools, and workshop equipment
- Follow all Health & Safety procedures and site requirements
- Support maintenance and repair activities across the plant
- Assist with general workshop duties when required
- Identify opportunities for plant modifications and continuous improvement initiatives to improve reliability, quality, and reduce downtime
What We're Looking For
Essential
- Welding qualifications with valid certification
- Experience working within a heavy industrial environment
- Strong understanding of Health & Safety requirements
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Self-motivated, organised, and proactive approach
- Ability to work under pressure and prioritise workload effectively
- Basic education including English and Mathematics
Desirable
- Experience welding stainless steel pipework up to 6"
- Plant operation experience (Forklift Truck, MEWP)
- Experience using maintenance data and logging systems for Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM)
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles including 5S/6S and 5 Why methodologies
- Experience within manufacturing, recycling, or waste processing environments
- Experience preparing formal documentation
- General IT skills
- Strong mechanical fault-finding abilities
