Job Description
We are seeking Construction and ADA Compliance Inspectors & GIS Data Analysts for seasonal on-call positions based in the metropolitan Birmingham, AL area with statewide opportunities available.
Successful candidates will be responsible for performing ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) compliance inspections, verifying quantities, day‑to‑day field operations, material testing, various other inspections, and creating comprehensive reports for municipal, ALDOT, airport, and private developer clients.
They will utilize GIS data to assess accessibility features and provide actionable insights, maintain databases in Microsoft Excel, and perform field inspections in accordance with the contractor's construction schedule.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct ADA compliance inspections of public spaces and facilities in the designated area.
- Demonstrate competency in construction compliance, ADEM construction site requirements, field inspection, and reporting.
- Use GIS data to analyze and report on the accessibility of the inspected facilities.
- Create detailed, clear, and concise reports on ADA compliance, including areas of concern, suggestions for improvements, and estimations for necessary modifications.
- Work closely with city officials, ALDOT representatives, contractors, and other relevant stakeholders to ensure all inspection reports are accurately documented and promptly delivered.
- Stay abreast of changes in ADEM and ADA laws and regulations and communicate these updates to the team.
- Provide recommendations based on the analysis of GIS data to enhance accessibility.
- Daily reporting for all field inspection activities.
- Maintain and demonstrate a SAFETY FIRST mindset daily.
- Respond to on‑call requests in a timely and professional manner.
- Minimum Qualifications
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in ADA compliance inspection or roadway construction inspection.
- Proficiency in using GIS systems to analyze and interpret spatial data.
- Detailed knowledge of the ADA and related accessibility standards and regulations.
- Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to generate detailed reports and present findings in a clear, concise manner.
- Working knowledge of MS Excel, MS Word, and other MS Office products.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and handle multiple projects simultaneously, efficiently, on schedule, and within budget.
- Ability to respond to on‑call requests promptly.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
- Own reliable transportation to commute to and from job sites.
- Ability to sit or stand for long hours.
- Ability to walk significant distances.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds unassisted.
- Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Urban Planning, Geography, Civil Engineering, or related field or equivalent experience.
- Certification in ADA compliance inspections.
- Prior experience as a construction inspector or commercial builder.
- Advanced skills in GIS software and tools.
- ALDOT or municipal experience preferred.
Compensation: $15.00 - $30.00 per hour
