Hours: Monday to Friday, 8am-5pm, with flexibility to meet operational requirements.
Summary: We are recruiting a Transport Manager for a third-party logistics (3PL) company in Stanford-le-Hope. Leading an office team of four, you will oversee 10 own-fleet vehicles and their drivers on the operator's licence, alongside approximately eight vans operating on a separate contract outside the O-licence fleet. Although the fleet is relatively small, the operation is varied and at times complex, requiring close coordination across multiple departments. The role combines hands-on transport management, a strong focus on compliance and a clear remit to reduce departmental costs while maintaining service standards. A Transport Manager CPC is essential, as you must be able to be named as Transport Manager on the company's operator's licence.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the named Transport Manager on the operator's licence, taking responsibility for transport compliance and maintaining the required standards across vehicles and drivers.
- Manage the daily operation of 10 own-fleet vehicles and their drivers, together with approximately eight vans supporting a separate contract.
- Lead and support the four-person office team, setting clear priorities and coordinating activity across a varied operation.
- Anticipate peaks in demand and adjust fleet requirements accordingly, working with vehicle rental companies to secure appropriate capacity.
- Drive departmental cost reduction by reviewing fleet utilisation, rental spend and operating costs, identifying efficiencies without compromising compliance or service.
- Work closely with multiple departments to coordinate groupage and fashion logistics requirements, resolve operational issues and respond to changing priorities.
Experience
- Essential: Transport Manager Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC), with the ability to be named as Transport Manager on the company's operator's licence.
- Experience managing transport operations, vehicle and driver compliance, and an office-based team within a logistics environment.
- A good understanding of groupage, fashion logistics and the operational demands of a 3PL business.
- Experience working with vehicle rental companies and adapting fleet capacity to meet seasonal peaks and changing contract requirements.
- A track record of controlling costs and improving fleet efficiency, supported by strong planning, problem-solving and cross-departmental communication skills.
