Most platform engineers spend their days putting out fires. This role is about building the thing that stops them starting.

A top hedge fund is hiring a Platform Engineer to design and run the Kubernetes platform its quants and engineers use every single day.

The hiring manager put it simply: “you’ll have real ownership over what you build here.”

They meant it.

Infrastructure is the product, and the internal Engineering and Quant teams are your customers.

You’ll build the self-service tools that let dev teams move fast at the platform layer without queuing up behind you.

You’ll also sit right at the heart of how the fund is scaling with AI, and you’ll become the go-to AI expert in the group.

Everything runs on-prem, so you’ll be close to the metal: automating away manual work, building developer tooling, and keeping production systems quick and reliable.

The culture is flat and practical.

Good ideas get built, not buried in meetings.

You'll need Solid Kubernetes experience (Open Shift is a bonus), strong Linux and production systems knowledge, and Python or Go for automation and tooling.

You’ve built serious systems before and you like getting your hands dirty with infrastructure.

  • Zone 1, five days on-site to start, dropping to four after probation.
  • Up to £150,000 plus a strong bonus, with breakfast and lunch covered.

How to prepare for a job interview at Saragossa

✨Brush Up on Your Coding Skills

For a full-time software engineering role, it's crucial that we stay sharp with our coding abilities. Expect technical questions that might involve solving problems on the spot or discussing algorithms. Practise on platforms like LeetCode or HackerRank to get comfortable with the types of questions that often come up.

✨Know Your Tools and Frameworks

Make sure we’re well-acquainted with the tools and technologies listed in the job description. Familiarise ourselves with any specific frameworks or programming languages mentioned. If Saragossa uses React or Node.js, for instance, be ready to discuss how we’ve used them in previous projects or coursework.

✨Showcase Your Projects

Bring along a portfolio that highlights our best work. This could be code samples, GitHub repositories, or any side projects we’ve built. Make sure we can talk through our thought process for each project, especially the challenges we faced and how we solved them—this shows our problem-solving skills in action.

✨Prepare for Behavioural Questions

While technical skills are key, full-time positions also require cultural fit. Be ready to discuss our previous experiences and how we handle teamwork, conflict, and deadlines. Brush up on the STAR method—Situation, Task, Action, Result—to clearly articulate our past experiences when discussing how we've contributed to a team.
