SDUK's brands include the Nations favourite cheese brand Cathedral City plus other well-known butter & spreads (Clover, Country Life, Vitalite, Utterly Butterly), functional ingredients and dairy free products. This site at Hawes remains the bastion of a 1,000-year long cheese making heritage of making Yorkshire Wensleydale cheese, with this compliance coordinator role a key position in ensuring site food safety and quality management of a large-scale artisanal process.

You will have responsibility for driving and improving standards, leading a team of four QC into a transitional phase as we lead the technical department from a reactive to a proactive team. This will be achieved through an initial documentation focus and use of the QMS to identify any gaps with procedures and SOPs through verification and validations (including CCPs), then implement improvements through training and supporting QC and operational/production personnel to manage the process and ensure quality of goods in and end product.

The role is one where you will be able to challenge the status quo and improve site systems on an on-going basis through regular audits and reviews to drive operational excellence. This is a site going through change, with many future opportunities for us to drive improvements in multiple areas, taking the business forward in a new and exciting direction.

YOU'LL MAKE CONTRIBUTIONS THAT MATTER BY:

  • Structuring, implementing, updating and maintaining the sites QMS (Q-Pulse), ensuring compliance with customer, legal, and regulatory requirements.
  • Acting as a subject matter expert for the QMS, and championing use across the site.
  • Coordinating and implementing the internal audit schedule, training new auditors, and reporting audit completion and attending quarterly performance review meetings.
  • Maintaining up-to-date accreditation and retailer standards through gap analysis and closure of actions.
  • Raising and coordinating customer complaint investigations in a timely manner.
  • Developing trends and KPI data, updating across the site in weekly reviews, monthly briefings, and completing group technical reports at required frequency.
  • Identifying and implementing areas for improvement and working with teams to develop sustainable actions.
  • Building and developing external relationships with suppliers and customers to ensure compliance and continuous improvement.
  • Ensuring audit readiness.

YOU'RE BEST SUITED FOR THE ROLE IF YOU ARE:

  • Able to demonstrate a strong understanding of QMS principles and ISO standards within a similar environment (FMCG/food/beverage production), with a strong awareness of retailer codes of practice and customer-specific quality expectations.
  • Able to demonstrate strong knowledge of food safety legislations, customer standards, and accreditation standards.
  • Strong with developing and interpreting KPI data, identifying trends and presenting findings effectively.
  • Capable of delivering training and development to QC and operations teams.
  • A clear and confident communicator, working across a range of internal teams and external stakeholders at all levels.
  • Familiar with Lean principles, risk assessments, and preventative quality expectations.
  • Skilled in planning, conducting, and reporting internal audits, with GAP analysis and corrective actions familiarity.
