SDUK's brands include the Nations favourite cheese brand Cathedral City plus other well-known butter & spreads (Clover, Country Life, Vitalite, Utterly Butterly), functional ingredients and dairy free products. This role is at our Hawes site, where we are the bastions of a 1,000-year long cheese making heritage of making Yorkshire Wensleydale cheese.
Within this role you will be working closely with the new, incoming manager to work with the plant teams on all aspects relevant to health, safety, and environmental (HSE) issues, including ensuring, promoting, and advising on compliance in all areas linking in with our values and safety plan. You'll be playing a key role in delivering performance through continuous improvement and lead assurance of effective management systems, strategic initiatives, and cultural development. As a site, we have been going through change, with plans to drive forward with investment. However, we first need to ensure we utilise the high levels of site engagement and deliver fundamentals to have the maturity levels to deliver these future goals. This position is an FTC (fixed-term contract) of 18 months.
YOU'LL MAKE CONTRIBUTIONS THAT MATTER BY:
- Supporting the HSE manager with the implementation of Saputo Dairy UK (SDUK) occupational health, safety and environmental strategy at site level, ensuring compliance with all legal and company standards, supporting with review and reporting on performance.
- Supporting with writing of all risk assessments, standard operating procedures (SOPs) and safe systems of work (SSWs).
- Supporting with control of contractors on site in all aspects of health and safety.
- Being involved in HSE inspections, workplace inspections, running of systems, data collection, and non-conformance tracking.
- Creating analytical reports of safety data and reporting within site and to group.
- Identifying hazards and reducing risks.
- Ensuring incidents are recorded, reported, tracked, and fed to relevant parties.
- Carrying out immediate incidents and near miss investigations.
- Coordinating HSE meetings, taking minutes, and tracking actions.
- Supporting with employee briefing, training, and development.
- Enforcing company policies and procedures.
YOU'RE BEST SUITED FOR THE ROLE IF YOU ARE:
- Working towards (or have achieved) a NEBOSH general certificate or similar qualification.
- Working towards (or have achieved) environmental management or similar qualification (with carbon neutral/net zero an advantage).
- Experienced working within a high-risk environment manufacturing, production, or similar preferred.
- Able to demonstrate training and/or audit experience (preferred).
- A good team player with well-developed communication skills, able to influence peers, and able to present written and verbal reports to stakeholders at all levels of the organisation.
- Able to deliver performance improvements through a structured and systematic approach, working with a calm, controlled, positive, and effective manner, under your own initiative, within a changing environment.
- Experienced managing external relationships with enforcement agencies such as Environment Agency, HSE, Fire (preferred).
- Able to demonstrate critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
