About the Role:

Reporting to the Operations Manager, the role of the Project Manager is to oversee all operations, directing and organising all activities to ensure that the planned work is delivered safely and on time; and monitoring that performance meets recognised standards of productivity, quality and compliance with essential health and safety provisions.

Location: Leyland, Lancashire

Hours: 50 hours per week, 06.30am-16:30pm, Monday to Friday

Salary: £43,290 per annum

Responsibilities – but not limited to:

  • Lead and motivate a team to deliver all aspects of planning and operations. This is to be done through monthly face to face manager meetings.
  • Identify and provide a platform to allow managers and operatives a succession plan within your department.
  • Managing subcontract performance.
  • Perform on call duties in accordance with the on-call rota.
  • Ensuring all Mangers and Operatives have appropriate vehicles, equipment, stores, and skills to perform allocated work.
  • Ensuring your management team are liaising with customers, clients, local authorities and other interested third parties regarding past, present, and future works.
  • To provide sufficient and timely supervision, assessments and coaching to ensure your managers are performing to our sufficient company standards. If standards are not upheld ensuring that coaching and if required disciplinary action has been taken.
  • Ensure all your management team are performing quality on site assessments checks (x8 Audits per month, minimum 4 onsite audits) and that you have met your monthly target. (2 Audit). Monthly
  • Ensuring near miss submissions are being sent through by yourselves and your teams.
  • H&S Reporting – Ensuring when accidents and incident occur that it has been reported to the H&S team immediately, and any assistance with investigations are carried out and fed back correctly.
  • The manager must have experience in writing and understanding RAMS,
  • planning what work needs to be done, when and who’s going to do it;
  • looking at the risks involved in a particular project and managing these risks;
  • making sure the work is done to the right standard;
  • motivating the team of people involved in the project;
  • making sure the project is running on time and to budget;
  • dealing with changes to the project as and when necessary;
  • making sure the project delivers the expected outcomes and benefits;
  • Comply with relevant company HSEQ and welfare policy provisions.
  • Ensuring all necessary and appropriate Toolbox Talks are regularly undertaken, Briefings, and other communications to your managers and their operatives.
  • To perform monthly fleet and plant checks ensuring fleet, plant and equipment maintenance is carried out and calibrated within the correct timescales.
  • Oversea site setups of over pumping and Tankering locations in accordance with the company’s safe systems of work. Sites are to be maintain until completion, ensuring all equipment is off hired and sales are captured throughout the life of the works.
  • Maintain own levels of skills and knowledge to do the job effectively, as well ensuring your managers and operatives are fully up to date. And Training records and ID Cards records are kept up to date. – 12 Month Period
  • Ensure all clients set KPI’s and SLA’s are maintained or exceeded each month.
  • Manage all day-to-day HR queries ensuring all updates are added to the HR system, and all HR processes and procedures are followed. Sickness and behaviours are to be monitored throughout the year ensuring that when required individuals are managed fairly through the processes to allow sign off of the end of year Loyalty and attendance bonuses.
  • Ensuring all contract changes for new and existing operatives have been completed and set through to the correct departments.
  • Ensure all Timesheets are submitted within the timescales set by payroll. And these are checked and correct at the time of submission. Where necessary Telematics checks are carried out to verify timesheet submission.
  • Weekly audits are to be carried out on operatives and their start times, on site times as well as offsite times. Ensuring operatives are carrying out their full shifts. Any failings to be logged on cascade.
  • Ensuring all mangers and operatives are complying with the company rules in each of our depots and that your managers are monitoring and dealing with individuals who don’t comply.
  • Submit accurate records into the sales sheet for works completed each day, ensuring all information is correct, accurate and within budget. Ensuring we are looking to reduce costs were possiable to ensure we are reducing our weekly costs. This is to be tracked weekly and a log to be kept providing data at the end of the financial year should it be required. Where shifts have been lost, we must look at all options available to us to recoup these where possible.
  • All overtime including managers is to be tracked and ensuring they are within compliant hours and that the overtime was warranted.
  • Ensuring the correct levels of resources are kept and maintained for each of your departments, ensuring there is enough ASH cover and support and that managers under your control are manging resource levels.
  • Ensuring all managers and operatives driving company vehicles adhere to company policy, where necessary interventions to be carried out to coach or take disciplinary action against offenders that is relevant to the offence committed. Weekly checks of the Samsara safety inbox are to be carried out to ensure your managers are following up through coaching and interventions.
  • Ensuring compliance with relation to the European driving hours standards to ensure Logbooks/Tachograph cards have been signed/downloaded to ensure compliance.
  • Where an at fault accident, incident or damage takes place, managers are to ensure the recharge process has been followed where applicable and that this has been documented through Cascade.
  • To manage and assess the competencies of all Employees through the competency assessment programme.
  • As part of your role phone call outside of normal working hours are to be expected and to be responded to professionally and in a timely manner to ensure operational delivery is upheld.

Experience, skills and qualifications required for the role:

  • Able to drive and have a full current, valid driving licence NVQ Management level 3 or equivalent in experience.
  • Ability to manage a budget.
  • Ability to lead and motivate people.
  • Computer Literate
  • Must have commercial awareness and understand basic business finance e.g., Capital revenue expenditure, cash-flow, overheads, etc.
  • Must be able to communicate professionally and effectively, particularly to external parties such as the client, their customers, and local authorities.
  • Must have the skills and confidence to supervise and coordinate site requirements and tasks.
  • Ability to manage a budget.
  • Ability to lead and motivate people.

  • A desire to solve problems, resolve conflict, arbitrate, and negotiate and make sound judgements and decisions.
  • Skills, proven experience, and natural ability to coach, manage and lead people.
  • Reliable, tolerant and be able to get on with others.
  • Should be well presented and professional.

  • Hold recognised supervisory or leadership in management course or equivalent in experience.
  • IOSH managing safely.
