Sapien are looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to work as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team for our Client based in Sandwich.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the delivery of new product designs under the guidance of senior engineering personnel.
  • Create and maintain 3D CAD models, assemblies, and manufacturing drawings using industry–standard CAD software, ensuring compliance with relevant engineering drawing standards and internal procedures.
  • Manage assigned engineering projects, ensuring activities are delivered on schedule and that design changes and concessions are reviewed and approved as appropriate.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering colleagues and cross–functional teams throughout the product development lifecycle.
  • Produce and maintain technical documentation including specifications, user manuals, assembly instructions, illustrations, cost estimates, validation plans, and test procedures.
  • Review and approve documentation where required.
  • Ensure engineering activities are conducted in accordance with established quality, environmental, and safety management systems.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to enhance engineering processes, product quality, and operational efficiency.
  • Support prototype assembly, testing, evaluation, and validation activities when required.

Qualifications and Licences

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Full UK driving licence.

Experience Required

  • Significant experience in detailed mechanical product design.
  • Proven experience using engineering analysis and simulation techniques, including finite element analysis (FEA), thermal analysis, and vibration analysis.
  • Experience within a precision engineering or high–specification manufacturing environment is desirable.
  • Experience designing complex mechanical systems and mechanisms.
  • Experience developing products for highly regulated, safety–critical, or demanding operating environments would be advantageous.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD modelling within a manufacturing environment; experience with SolidWorks or similar CAD platforms preferred.

Additional Requirements

  • Candidates must be eligible to obtain security clearance to an appropriate level due to the nature of the work.
