We are seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join a leading UK engineering business specialising in bespoke lifting and material handling equipment. This is a key role within a multidisciplinary engineering team, offering the opportunity to work on complex, safety-critical systems across industries such as rail, construction, utilities, and aerospace.
Job Responsibilities
- Lead the design and development of bespoke mechanical lifting and handling equipment
- Produce detailed 3D models and 2D technical drawings using CAD software
- Perform engineering calculations including stress analysis and load assessments
- Ensure all designs comply with applicable UK and international standards
- Collaborate with electrical, hydraulic, and manufacturing teams
- Support prototype builds, testing, and manufacturing processes
Skills Required
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
- Strong experience in mechanical design within heavy engineering or special purpose machinery
- Proficiency in CAD software such as AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor, and Vault
- Strong understanding of engineering principles, stress analysis, and design standards
- Familiarity with BS standards
- Knowledge of hydraulic and/or electrical systems (desirable)
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Ability to manage projects and work effectively within multidisciplinary teams
