Role Overview

We are seeking a Senior Engagement Lead to drive a flagship Core Banking and Payments transformation for a leading UK bank. Reporting to the Banking division CEO, this role is designed for a high-calibre leader who combines deep domain expertise in core banking and payments, proven delivery leadership on large-scale transformations, strong client advisory capability at executive level, and commercial acumen to grow strategic accounts. You will operate at the intersection of delivery, advisory, and commercial ownership, with accountability for both programme success and account growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Transformation Delivery Leadership
    • Lead end-to-end execution of large-scale core banking and payments transformation programmes
    • Manage multiple workstreams across technology, integration, and business change
    • Ensure strong governance, risk management, and delivery discipline
    • Align programme outcomes with client strategic objectives
  • Client Advisory & Stakeholder Management
    • Act as a trusted advisor to senior stakeholders (CIO, CTO, Business leadership)
    • Shape transformation roadmaps, architecture decisions, and operating models
    • Build long-term client relationships beyond delivery
    • Translate complex challenges into actionable solutions
  • Domain Leadership (Core Banking & Payments)
    • Provide deep expertise across core banking, payments, deposits, and transaction banking
    • Guide modernisation approaches including platform transformation and integration strategy
    • Anchor credibility with both business and technology stakeholders
  • Commercial & Account Growth
    • Identify and drive account expansion opportunities
    • Lead value-based discussions on scope, solutions, and outcomes
    • Contribute to revenue growth and long-term account strategy
    • Balance delivery excellence with commercial outcomes
  • Team Leadership
    • Lead and develop cross-functional teams (delivery, architecture, domain)
    • Drive high performance, accountability, and collaboration
    • Mentor future leaders and build capability within the team

Requirements

  • 10+ years in IT transformation in banking with a proven track record delivering core banking or payments implementations end-to-end
  • Experience working with Tier-1,2 banks or complex financial institutions
  • Strong knowledge of core banking platforms, retail and corporate banking and payments ecosystems
  • Understanding of banking architecture, integration, and modernization patterns
  • Demonstrated ability to operate as a strategic advisor to senior stakeholders
  • Ability to lead large teams across locations
  • Experience contributing to or owning account growth and revenue expansion
  • Ability to identify opportunities and translate them into tangible business outcomes
