Full time | September Start | 5 Days Per Week | Primary SEN | 1:1 Support Role

Are you deaf or fluent in British Sign Language (BSL)? Are you passionate about supporting children with hearing impairments or complex needs? Sanza Teaching is seeking a skilled and compassionate BSL Teaching Assistant to work at an outstanding primary school in Wandsworth, Southwest London. This is a Full-time role, where you will be working 1:1 with a child who has complex needs and is profoundly deaf. Your BSL expertise will be essential, as this is the student's primary means of communication.

  • 5 days per week (Full-time)
  • Location: Wandsworth
  • Working hours: 8:30am - 3:30/4:00pm
  • BSL Level 2 or above required
  • Experience with ASD and complex needs preferred

Your Role Will Involve:

  • Providing 1:1 support to a student with complex needs who is hearing impaired.
  • Using British Sign Language (BSL) to communicate and support learning.
  • Helping the student engage with classroom activities and interact with peers.
  • Supporting their emotional, social, and academic development.
  • Liaising with teachers, SENCOs, and specialists to ensure consistency in care and progress.
  • Relaying BSL communication between the student and non-signing staff or pupils.

What You'll Need to Succeed:

  • British Sign Language (BSL) qualification - Level 2 or above
  • Experience supporting children or young people with Special Educational Needs (SEN), particularly ASD and/or hearing impairments
  • Confidence in using BSL as a primary communication tool
  • Strong interpersonal skills and an empathetic approach
  • Ability to adapt to different learning styles and individual needs
  • A valid Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply for one)
