A primary school in North West London is looking for a Year 2 General Teaching Assistant to join their team. This is a fantastic opportunity for a Teaching Assistant who enjoys being actively involved in classroom life and working alongside a class teacher to support pupils with their learning and development.
This is a general classroom Teaching Assistant position within Year 2, rather than a dedicated 1:1 role. You will support pupils across the class, working with individuals and small groups as well as providing general classroom support throughout the school day.
The school has a creative approach to teaching and learning. They are looking for a Teaching Assistant who can become an active member of the classroom team, working closely with the Year 2 teacher and wider staff to help pupils access learning and make progress. The successful candidate will support the smooth day-to-day running of the classroom and help create a positive, inclusive and engaging learning environment for all pupils.
The Role
- Support the class teacher with pupils' learning and the day-to-day organisation of the classroom.
- Support pupils during whole-class teaching and independent activities.
- Work with small groups and individual pupils.
- Reinforce learning introduced by the class teacher.
- Support pupils with reading, writing and maths.
- Help pupils remain focused and engaged with their learning.
- Provide additional explanation and encouragement where required.
- Support positive behaviour and established classroom routines.
- Prepare and organise classroom resources.
- Help maintain an organised and engaging learning environment.
- Provide appropriate feedback to the class teacher regarding pupils' progress and participation.
- Support pupils with differing learning needs within the classroom.
- Follow the school's safeguarding, behaviour and health and safety procedures.
- Work collaboratively with the class teacher and wider school team.
The Ideal Candidate
- Proactive, reliable and committed to supporting children's learning.
- Previous experience working with primary-aged children.
- Experience as a Teaching Assistant or within a relevant education or childcare setting.
- Confident supporting pupils with KS1 learning.
- Good literacy and numeracy skills.
- Able to build appropriate and positive professional relationships with pupils.
- Comfortable supporting individuals, small groups and the wider class.
- Organised and able to use your initiative appropriately.
- Calm and consistent approach to supporting behaviour.
- Effective communication with teaching staff and other colleagues.
- Understanding of the importance of safeguarding and pupil wellbeing.
- Able to work collaboratively as part of a school team.
Previous experience supporting pupils within KS1 or Year 2 would be advantageous but is not essential where candidates can demonstrate relevant transferable experience.
