Overview

Santander Corporate & Investment Banking (SCIB) is Santander's global division that supports some of the world's most complex and sophisticated corporate and institutional clients, offering customised services and value-added wholesale products to best meet their needs. The Energy Structured Finance team is the front office origination and execution team covering Energy project financing across Europe, and is a market leader in both Financial Advisory and MLA league tables. The team is part of the global energy structured finance business and is based in London, collaborating with colleagues in Madrid.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contributing to idea generation by understanding client needs and objectives, pitching opportunities to them working jointly with the team head and other areas of CIB such as Debt Capital Markets, Ratings Advisory and Risk Solutions.
  • Understanding current and future client needs in the context of market dynamics, and applying insights to recommend short and/or long-term solutions and services.
  • Building strong and long‑lasting relationships with key clients at senior executive level.
  • Leading the execution of new and existing mandates, across both lending and debt advisory.
  • Leading a team in reviewing diligence materials, model and documentation, negotiating terms with our client or their advisors, and presenting the transaction to internal credit and pricing committees.
  • Acting as a facilitator between the client and different lending platforms/solutions such as banks, debt funds and pension funds to enable them to source the most adequate and competitive sources of funding.
  • Leading the structuring and placement of debt financing, including leading an advisory team in preparation of a financial model, interfacing with due diligence providers and lawyers, preparation of marketing materials (teaser, IM etc.), and managing the coordination of the process.
  • Keeping abreast of the current issues and challenges facing clients in the energy and infrastructure sector.
  • Mentoring and developing more junior members of staff, providing constructive feedback on a formal and informal basis.

Qualifications

  • Extensive investment banking experience in a similar role within Renewable Energy, Power and/or Infrastructure.
  • Deep sector knowledge (Energy and Infrastructure) supported by relevant deal flow experience.
  • Demonstrable track record in building productive business relationships.
  • Extensive network of relationships amongst infrastructure corporates and funds at senior executive level.
  • Sound knowledge of debt, equity, and derivative markets and solutions.
  • Experience writing proposals and supporting business development activities.
  • Clear written and oral communication skills with an ability to communicate complex concepts to a senior audience.
  • Modelling skills and fluency in reviewing a financial model.
  • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent, in a quantitative subject.

This role is based at our offices in Triton Square, London, located within easy walking distance from Warren Street and Euston.
