This is an exciting opportunity to join our finance team as a Reconciliation and Controls Specialist (12 Month FTC) for Santander Consumer Finance UK (SCUK). This Specialist will support the financial controls, investigations, and clearance activities across Payments – covering CHAPs, Cheques, BACs, FPS, Cards, and International Payments.
Please note this role is a hybrid role with at least 3 days a week in the Redhill office. Remote workers will not be considered.
Responsibilities will include:
- Supporting the Manager and Head of Department on all elements of Payments, Banking Controls and Accounting Projects
- Ensuring that payments and banking controls are implemented and effectively monitored, and exceptions are cleared within the tolerances allocated
- Supporting projects to help implement any process improvements identified via root cause analysis
- Providing SME advice and guidance to key stakeholders across the bank and externally – including senior stakeholders, third party providers, audit teams and incident management
- Managing and providing relevant MI and SME knowledge on all control account activities to stakeholders including Audit (Internal & External) and senior management
- Maintaining and developing, specialist knowledge of various payment schemes and ensuring the accounting is compliant
- Play a role in establishing strong relationships with the teams in SAN UK, Operations, Gesban, IT and the other SCUK & JV Finance teams
- Support the delivery of end-to-end accounting on projects
- Support with the management of incidents, ensuring customer impact is minimised and incidents are cleared in prompt manner
- Partnering with teams across SCUK to deliver process improvement as part of routine project and controls review
- Adhering to our commitment to Consumer Duty ensuring we put our Customers\’ needs first and set higher and clearer standards of consumer protection
What we\’re looking for:
- Previous experience of working within a controls team within financial services or similar environment
- Understanding of payments, accounting and related controls
- Banking /Payments /Finance product and associated payment scheme knowledge
- Knowledge of operational control practices/models
- Strong working knowledge of desktop applications including Microsoft Excel and Word with the ability to create and manipulate spreadsheets
- Able to prioritise, work efficiently and manage time effectively
- Able to provide clear, concise, and focused written and oral communication
- Proven ability to interpret and document complicated processes
- A determined, resilient, and persistent approach to problem solving, constantly striving to improve processes and controls
- Experience of working using own initiative as well as working as part of a team
- Well established ability to influence, challenge and gain respect at senior levels
- Able to confidently represent the team at internal and external meetings
- Currently studying/holding CIMA, ACCA or AAT would be an advantage.
