Leveraged Finance is a strategic business for Santander and has demonstrated material growth over the past few years. As the in-house lawyer, you’ll support and help manage the legal risks of the leveraged finance business including advising front office and origination functions. This role can either be based in London or Madrid, depending on where you are currently based.

Responsibilities- Reviewing and negotiating leveraged finance documentation, including term sheets, commitment letters, mandate letters, credit agreements, intercreditor agreements and fee letters.
- Liaising closely with the Leveraged Finance Transaction Advisory team and providing input on documentation issues, legal risk and compliance with the Bank’s internal policies and standards.
- Assisting with deal execution from mandate through closing, including conditions precedent.
- Coordinating closely with internal stakeholders across multiple jurisdictions as well as liaising with external counsel.
- Advising other product teams on how to interpret and navigate leveraged finance documentation.
- Reviewing and negotiating ancillary documents including NDAs, release and reliance letters, amendments and waivers.
- Monitoring legal developments and market trends in the leveraged finance market.
These are the essential requirements you need to be successful in this role:
- UK, US or European Qualified Lawyer with at least 4 years’ post qualification experience in a reputable law firm that is used to transacting large cap leveraged finance deals.
- Excellent understanding and working knowledge of leverage finance transactions and documentation.
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced, deadline-driven and cross border environment.
- Well-developed communication skills both written and verbal.
It would also be nice for you to have:
- In-house secondment experience.
- Fluency in Spanish or other European languages.
- Good analytical skills and commercial acumen.
- A highly adaptable, proactive and collaborative approach with demonstrable willingness to learn and be involved in a wide variety of work.
This role can be either based at our offices in Triton Square, London or Boadilla del Monte, Madrid. To support this, we offer site-based contracts with a hybrid working pattern and our expected level of attendance in an office is at least 3 days a week (pro-rata for part-time roles).

We put 8% of salary into your pension, even if you don’t contribute yourself.
