Retail & Commercial Banking is a global business integrating all our retail and commercial banking activities to better serve our customers, improve efficiency and drive value creation.
THE DIFFERENCE YOU MAKE
Retail & Commercial Banking is looking for a Risk Analyst. Based out of Milton Keynes, Belfast, Bradford or Glasgow. The Non-Financial Risk Reporting, Oversight and Governance team, within the Central Controls Office, supports the business through risk reporting and management information, risk monitoring and coordination, risk insight and oversight, governance and continuous improvement.
As a Risk Analyst, you'll play an important role in strengthening first-line risk management through data analysis, risk insight and effective monitoring. You'll use information from a range of risk and reporting systems to identify trends, themes, weaknesses and emerging areas of concern across non-financial risk, translating your findings into clear and meaningful insight for Business Risk Partners, senior management and risk governance forums.
You’ll also support the continued transition of risk reporting and monitoring activities from the second line of defence into the first line of defence, helping to embed effective processes, identify opportunities for improvement and strengthen how risk information is used to support decision-making.
We’re shaping the way we work through innovation, cutting-edge technology, collaboration and the freedom to explore new ideas. To succeed in this role, you will be responsible for:
- Extracting, validating, interrogating and analysing data from multiple risk and reporting systems to identify trends, themes, emerging risks, control weaknesses, deficiencies and other areas requiring management attention.
- Undertaking thematic analysis across divisions, domains and non-financial risk types, identifying underlying drivers and translating complex information into clear, evidence-based risk insight and recommendations.
- Producing management information, data visualisations and presentation materials suitable for senior governance, including material that may contribute to Executive Committee or Board-level reporting, subject to appropriate review by senior colleagues.
- Coordinating risk appetite monitoring, including obtaining and validating metric submissions, maintaining information within relevant systems, identifying positions outside agreed risk appetite and reviewing the quality of associated drivers and action plans.
- Supporting the Internal Control Profile by reviewing information provided by Santander Group, identifying control weaknesses, risks, deficiencies, gaps and organisational drivers of performance, and working with relevant stakeholders to support appropriate next steps and governance reporting.
- Applying relevant risk frameworks, policies and policy standards when undertaking monitoring, analysis and reporting; identifying and appropriately challenging potential gaps or areas of non-compliance, while providing constructive evidence-based feedback where there are opportunities to improve policies, standards or processes.
- Supporting risk governance across multiple divisions and domains, including preparation of risk packs, meeting materials, action tracking, forward agenda planning, maintenance of terms of reference and, where required, meeting minutes and other governance administration.
- Identifying opportunities to improve the quality, efficiency and consistency of risk reporting and analysis through better use of data, automation, artificial intelligence and Microsoft 365 capabilities.
