The Energy Structured Finance team is the Front Office origination and execution team covering Energy project financings across Europe for Santander CIB. The team is a market leader in both Financial Advisory and MLA league tables, having closed 2025 as #1 position. The team is closely aligned to our global energy structured finance teams, meaning we also may be called to support transactions in the US, Brazil or Asia on occasion.

The role is a London based role, part of a team split between London and Madrid. In aggregate, the energy team in Europe totals over 40 FTE, and is part of the global energy business comprising over 80 FTE. In London we are co-located with the Infrastructure Structured Finance team, and there are opportunities to collaborate in certain situations. The team works closely with colleagues across Markets, M&A and Transactional Banking as well as other product areas.

Key activities
  • Supporting both the lending and debt advisory segments of our business. This includes strategic planning, selling, marketing, client engagement, and vendor/partner management.
  • Contribute to idea generation by understanding client needs and objectives, pitching opportunities to them working jointly with the team head and other areas of CIB such as Debt Capital Markets, Ratings Advisory and Risk Solutions.
  • In advisory work, act as a facilitator between the client and different lending platforms/solutions such as Banks, Debt Funds, Pensions Funds etc. to enable them to source the most adequate and competitive sources of funding.
  • Support the execution of new and existing mandates, across both lending and debt advisory. For advisory, support in the structuring and placement of debt financing, to include preparation of a financial model, interfacing with due diligence providers and lawyers, preparation of marketing materials (teaser, IM etc), and managing the coordination of the process. For lending work, be part of a team in reviewing diligence materials, model and documentation, negotiate terms with our client or their advisors, and present the transaction to internal credit and pricing committees.
  • Build strong and long-lasting relationships with key clients at junior level. Keep abreast of the current issues and challenges facing our clients in the energy and infrastructure sector. Understand current and future client needs in the context of market dynamics and apply insights to recommend short and/or long-term solutions and services.
  • Emphasize and actively promote teamwork and team spirit to enhance both quality of product delivery and team earnings.
What we're looking for
  • Interest in the Energy and Infrastructure sector, and knowledge thereof.
  • Experience building project finance financial models.
  • Modelling skills and fluency in MS Excel.
  • Experience writing proposals and supporting business development activities desirable.
  • Sound basic understanding of debt, equity, and derivative markets and solutions.
  • Demonstrated track record in building productive business relationships.
  • Clear written and oral communication skills with an ability to communicate complex concepts to a senior audience.
  • Ability to build a network of relationships amongst infrastructure corporates and funds.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent, quantitative subject preferred; MBA desirable.

This role is based in our Triton Square office in London, conveniently located within walking distance from Euston Station and Warren Street Station.
