Santander Corporate & Investment Banking (SCIB) is Santander's global division that supports some of the world's most complex and sophisticated corporate and institutional clients, offering customised services and value-added wholesale products to best meet their needs. The scope of Business Controls Unit (BCU) covers Non-Financial risk management and regulatory compliance within an Investment Banking business supporting all lines of business, working effectively across the three lines of defence. BCU is a first line of defence team and covers a number of risk disciplines in support of the business and clients including Operational Risk, Trading & Banking Controls, Conduct and Regulatory change and controls.

In this critical role, you’ll work hand-in-hand with Front Office teams to support risk ownership and control assurance for trading and banking activities whilst ensuring compliance with the firm’s operational risk framework and regulatory requirements.

The difference you’ll make:

  • Supporting the continuous improvement of Markets, GTB and Banking control frameworks
  • Supporting the development and continuous improvement of Business supervision processes, procedures, MI and technology across Markets, GTB and Banking
  • Supporting product, risk and control owners through Risk & Control Self-Assessments (RCSA) and updating control libraries
  • Executing independent control testing/and or risk and control deep dives and escalating breaches promptly
  • Monitoring trading desk activities for market, operational, and conduct risks
  • Supporting the continuous automation and digitalisation of processes and reporting
  • Assisting with the on-going development and management of BCU led governance bodies and coordinating periodic reporting (dashboards, KPIs, incidents)
  • Daily monitoring of risk metrics, escalation of breaches
  • Producing monthly and quarterly reports for UK and Global risk forums

  • Previous experience working within and for an investment banking business, ideally in a business or product aligned role
  • Well-developed analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and develop actionable insights
  • Evidenced management of simplification and/or AI projects/developments
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex risk information to non-experts
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy in conducting risk analyses and preparing reports
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Power BI
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing regulatory environments, business strategy and models and emerging risks

It would also be nice for you to have:

  • Previous experience in COO, Operational Risk or similar roles
  • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent in Finance, Business Administration, Risk Management, or related field
