Senior Compliance Manager will provide oversight of the compliance, conduct and regulatory framework across the Syndicate and its associated UK MGA.

Key responsibilities

Regulatory Compliance & Governance

  • Oversee the compliance framework across the Syndicate and MGA, ensuring alignment with FCA, PRA, Lloyd's and Santam Group requirements.
  • Coordinate regulatory submissions, responses and reporting delivered through Asta Managing Agency and DMGA.
  • Monitor regulatory developments and advise senior stakeholders on emerging regulatory risks and obligations.
  • Support regulatory reviews, audits, inspections and information requests.
  • Provide pragmatic, risk-based advice and challenge to the business and executive leadership.

Conduct Risk & Customer Outcomes

  • Lead oversight of conduct risk management and promote a strong conduct and compliance culture throughout the organisation.
  • Support the implementation and ongoing oversight of FCA Consumer Duty requirements and customer outcome initiatives.
  • Oversee Product Oversight Group (POG) activities, including product governance, fair value assessments and distribution arrangements.
  • Monitor and challenge conduct risk indicators, management information and remediation activities.
  • Drive ethical decision-making and accountability across the business.

Complaints & Customer Oversight

  • Oversee complaints handling arrangements in line with FCA DISP and Lloyd's requirements.
  • Review complaint trends, root cause analysis and thematic issues.
  • Ensure systemic conduct or customer outcome concerns are identified, escalated and addressed appropriately.

Financial Crime & Sanctions

  • Provide oversight of financial crime, sanctions and related compliance frameworks.
  • Ensure effective controls, sanctions screening, referral processes and escalation arrangements are in place and operating effectively.
  • Support the identification and management of emerging financial crime and regulatory risks.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Build strong relationships across Santam Group, Asta Managing Agency, DMGA, underwriting teams, delegated authority functions and governance committees.
  • Influence and engage senior stakeholders with credibility and confidence.
  • Deliver clear, practical and commercially focused compliance guidance.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Degree qualification or equivalent.
  • ACII or equivalent insurance qualification.
  • ICA Advanced Certificate, ICA Diploma or other recognised compliance qualification.
  • Experience within the Lloyd's and London Market insurance sector.
  • A minimum of 10 years' compliance experience within regulated financial services, with at least 5 years in a senior compliance, conduct risk or regulatory oversight role.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

The successful candidate should have

  • Strong understanding of FCA Conduct Rules, SMCR and regulatory expectations applicable to insurers, MGAs and Lloyd's market participants.
  • Proven experience embedding and promoting a positive conduct culture within a regulated financial services environment.
  • Demonstrable experience advising senior stakeholders on conduct risk, regulatory compliance, ethics and governance matters.
  • Experience designing, monitoring and reporting on conduct risk frameworks, conduct management information and regulatory compliance activities.
  • Strong understanding of customer outcomes, fair treatment principles and regulatory expectations regarding organisational behaviour and decision-making.
  • Ability to identify emerging conduct and regulatory risks and implement practical, proportionate mitigation strategies.
  • Experience supporting regulatory engagements, reviews, audits and information requests relating to conduct and compliance matters.
  • Excellent judgement, integrity and the confidence to challenge constructively while maintaining strong stakeholder relationships.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex regulatory requirements and translate them into practical business solutions.
  • Commitment to fostering a culture of accountability, ethical behaviour and regulatory excellence.
  • Technical & Industry Experience
  • Significant compliance experience within the Lloyd's, London Market, insurance, syndicate, managing agent or MGA environment.
  • Strong technical knowledge of UK insurance regulation and Lloyd's operations.
  • Broad compliance generalist experience covering conduct, governance, complaints, regulatory compliance and financial crime/sanctions.
  • Experience working closely with underwriting and delegated authority teams.
  • Excellent communication, influencing and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to provide pragmatic, commercially aware and proportionate challenge.
