We are looking for a Senior Backend Developer (Python AWS) to help build a healthcare platform. You will own backend services end to end, and work closely with the CTO. This is a hands-on senior backend role spanning service development, AWS platform foundations, third-party integrations, PostgreSQL data access, CI/CD, infrastructure as code, observability and production readiness.
You will design and build secure, maintainable APIs and services, work closely with the product team to turn requirements into well-designed software, and set the standards that junior developers follow. We expect you to use AI coding tools to accelerate implementation, testing, documentation, infrastructure work and code review, while keeping clear human accountability for correctness, security and reliability.
Role- Design and build backend services in Python and FastAPI: API endpoints, service logic, validation, business workflows and data access patterns.
- Ensure APIs are documented through OpenAPI/Swagger and are easy for frontend developers and AI coding tools to consume.
- Support the design and implementation of the operational PostgreSQL data store, including schema design, migrations and query optimisation.
- Build secure, reliable third-party integration patterns using AWS services such as API Gateway, Lambda, SQS and S3.
- Support AWS environments using Infrastructure as Code, containerised workloads and deployment automation.
- Design and maintain CI/CD pipelines for build, test, security scanning, deployment and rollback.
- Implement logging, metrics, tracing and alerting using tools such as CloudWatch and X-Ray.
- Python, with FastAPI or an equivalent modern async API framework.
- Strong REST API design, OpenAPI/Swagger and service-based architecture.
- PostgreSQL: SQL, schema design, migrations and query optimisation, with comfort writing and tuning queries directly.
- Strong AWS experience building and operating services — for example API Gateway, Lambda, SQS, S3, RDS, ECS Fargate, CloudWatch, X-Ray, Cognito, KMS and Secrets Manager.
- Infrastructure as Code (Terraform / CloudFormation / CDK); Terraform experience preferred.
- Containerised workloads (Docker / ECS Fargate).
- Git-based workflows, pull requests, code review and CI/CD pipelines.
- Automated testing across unit, API and integration layers.
- Experience migrating from legacy platforms to modern service-based architecture.
- Experience with AI-assisted tools such as Cursor, GitHub Copilot or Claude.
- Strong desire to work in a fast paced startup environment.
