Sandwich Technology School is seeking a reliable and practical Maintenance person to join our friendly Premises Team and support the School Site Engineer in maintaining a safe, secure and well‑presented environment for our students, staff and visitors. This is a varied and hands‑on role, ideal for someone who enjoys practical work, takes pride in their surroundings, and wants to play an important part in a school community.

As Maintenance person, you will be responsible for the upkeep, upgrading and maintaining school buildings, supporting the security, safety and smooth running of the premises. You will assist with ensuring the site remains safe, welcoming, functional and secure at all times.

Key responsibilities include:

  • To carry out to a high standard small building projects and the development of the school site under the direction of the Site Engineer.
  • Undertaking practical tasks such as basic plumbing, carpentry, decorating and deep cleaning.
  • Carrying out minor repairs and general maintenance across the site.
  • To support the Site Engineer in the day‑to‑day duties and management and security of school buildings.
  • To cover in the Site Engineer's absence and lead the Caretaking team and activities.
  • To support with the day‑to‑day caretaking duties.
  • To be part of the on call, out of hours team.
  • To support with school lettings.
  • Keeping accurate records relating to maintenance and site security.

  • Have good practical and DIY skills with the confidence to tackle a range of maintenance tasks.
  • Bring previous relevant experience in caretaking, site maintenance or a similar role.
  • Be organised, reliable and flexible, with a proactive approach to work.
  • Communicate effectively and work well as part of a team.
  • Take pride in maintaining a safe, clean and secure environment.
