Job Description

Nexus School is seeking a reliable and hardworking Lunchtime Cleaner to help maintain a high standard of cleanliness, hygiene, and safety during the school’s lunchtime period. This is a key role in ensuring a healthy environment for our pupils, many of whom have additional educational needs.

You will be part of a friendly and supportive site team, helping to clean the school dining areas and support with hygiene routines across the site.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain cleanliness and tidiness in the school dining hall and surrounding areas during and after lunch

  • Operate cleaning equipment safely and effectively (training provided)

  • Remove waste and litter, empty bins, and restock hygiene supplies (soap, paper towels, etc.)

  • Carry out emergency cleaning tasks as needed

  • Follow Health & Safety regulations, including COSHH and manual handling procedures

  • Report any hazards or maintenance issues promptly

  • Support the wider school community with a positive, flexible attitude

Person Specification

Essential:

  • Good literacy and numeracy skills (GCSE Grade C/4 or equivalent in English and Maths)

  • Previous experience in cleaning or facilities roles

  • Understanding of health, safety and hygiene procedures

  • Able to work independently and as part of a team

  • Strong communication skills and awareness of safeguarding procedures

  • Positive, professional attitude and a willingness to learn

Desirable:

  • Experience working in a school or around children

  • Basic First Aid and/or COSHH training

  • Familiarity with working in SEND environments
