We have an exciting opportunity for a dedicated, caring and motivated individual to join our school community in a job share with our current Family Liaison Officer who is looking to reduce her hours. The post is for 16.5 hours per week: Wednesday 2.30 p.m. to 5.00 p.m., Thursday and Friday 8.30 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. with half hour unpaid lunch.

Supporting the pastoral needs of our children and families is a key part of our work and as such, we are looking for someone with relevant experience to join our amazing pastoral team. The post will require the successful candidate to lead pastoral support work for children and parents and to liaise closely with the school’s Senior Management Team on all aspects of family and pupil wellbeing. You will act as a Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) and will be required to make Front Door referrals, signpost families to external support and work with outside agencies.

Working with parents in their own homes, managing cases and leading opportunities for parents to develop skills in supporting their children forms a core part of the FLO role as does working with our wonderful children to support their emotional and mental health needs through 1:1 and group intervention.

Experience of the following would be desirable:

  • Managing family cases and working alongside Early Help or Children’s Social Services
  • Supporting mental health issues such as anxiety or low self-esteem in children or adults
  • Signposting families to support services and making referrals as required
  • Supporting loss and bereavement
  • Drawing and talking therapy
  • Therapeutic or positive play
  • Cognitive behavioural therapy
  • Managing and leading social skills groups and 1:1 direct work
  • Leading interventions such as Lego therapy

Candidates will need the following qualities and skills:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Expert knowledge of pastoral support and family liaison
  • Clear understanding of early intervention strategies
  • A proven track record of teamwork
  • A commitment to inclusion and working with parents and the community
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to prioritise
  • Clear understanding of confidentiality
  • Flexibility, energy and a sense of humour
