HLTA & PPA Cover (fixed term with the possibility of becoming permanent). Are you an experienced teaching assistant who wants to take the next step in your career? We are looking for an HLTA to come and join our enthusiastic and highly skilled team in making a difference to children's lives. We are looking for someone as soon as possible.

In this role, you will take responsibility for agreed learning activities including regular PPA and leadership cover and other short term cover where appropriate. This will involve preparing and delivering already planned lessons, possibly marking work under the guidance of the Class Teacher. When not covering, you will be working within a class with groups and individuals alongside other professionals to ensure rapid progress. There may be the requirement to work across different year groups in the school, dependent upon the needs of the school.

Experience working within a school is necessary. GCSE level English and Maths is a requirement and a HLTA qualification is desirable but not essential. Above all, you need to be committed to working as part of a team who are determined to secure the absolute best for our pupils and will work hard to ensure children achieve everything they are capable of.

The successful candidate will:

  • be educated to at least GCSE Grade C in English and Maths or equivalent and have the experience of working with children in an educational setting
  • have relevant qualifications in childcare and learning and a working knowledge of the National Curriculum
  • have experience of supporting individuals and small groups of children in achieving the lesson objectives
  • be able to liaise with the class teacher, providing feedback and keeping records of progress and behaviour
  • support the social, emotional, behavioural and medical needs of pupils
  • communicate with parents
  • prepare resources and undertake administrative tasks
  • display children's work creatively

The role is full-time, term time only (38 weeks per year), hours negotiable. Kent Range Grade 5/6 depending on experience. Our school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of the children. The post is subject to an enhanced Disclosure Application to the Disclosure and Barring Service.

This post is considered to be a customer-facing position; as such it falls within scope of the Code of Practice on English language requirements for public sector workers. The school therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act 2010 to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements. This will be assessed during the recruitment/selection process and probationary stages.
