Parkview Academy is seeking a motivated and passionate Tutor to join our team. The successful candidate will deliver lessons and speech and language therapy intervention to small groups of learners who, for various reasons, do not access mainstream education and may have single or multiple special educational needs (SEN). You will plan and deliver a Foundation Learning curriculum covering maths, English, ICT, vocational learning, and personal and social development. Working closely with the Senior Management Team and the school's Qualified Teacher, you will also guide and support Learning Support Assistants to ensure learners make meaningful progress and achieve their potential. Key Responsibilities

  • To deliver lessons and speech and language therapy intervention to small groups of learners.
  • Work alongside the Senior Management Team and Qualified Teacher to develop daily lessons and schemes of work tailored to learners' needs.
  • Guide and support LSAs and Junior Assistant Teachers working within the school.
  • Track and monitor learner progress, maintaining accurate records including IEPs, PHPs, risk assessments, and B-Squared assessments.
  • Deliver personalised, differentiated learning activities to individuals and small groups.
  • Implement behaviour management strategies in line with school policies.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with learners, parents, and carers, reporting on progress and supporting engagement.
  • Promote our school ethos of Attendance, Routine, Respect, Relationships, Trust, and Teaching (ARRRT).
  • Uphold and adhere to safeguarding, confidentiality, and child protection policies at all times.

Person Specification

Essential

  • A relevant qualification in teaching and learning, such as PTLLS, Level 3 Teaching and Learning, Teaching Assistant, or Higher Level Teaching Assistant qualification.
  • Education to A-level or equivalent and beyond.
  • Experience working with young people with SEN, challenging behaviour, or complex needs.
  • Knowledge of special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) and the SEND Code of Practice.
  • Ability to plan and tutor effectively using a variety of strategies.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with both adults and young people.
  • Strong organisational, planning, and time-management skills.
  • Empathetic, flexible, and committed to raising student achievement.

Desirable

  • Degree-level qualification in a subject relevant to the Foundation Learning model.
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
  • Experience of outreach work with young people or vulnerable individuals.
  • Knowledge of ICT tools to enhance learning and lesson delivery.
