About the Role

Pierview Academy is seeking a dynamic and committed Assistant Head Teacher to join our independent school supporting up to 40 learners with special educational needs and challenging behaviour. The successful candidate will deputise for the Head Teacher when required and provide professional leadership to ensure high-quality education and improved standards of learning and achievement. You will guide and support teachers, tutors, LSAs, and other staff to ensure successful teaching and learning in line with the school’s Curriculum Policy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, manage, and develop staff to deliver effective educational and social programmes.
  • Support and develop the curriculum, schemes of work, and lesson plans.
  • Create a safe, productive, and engaging learning environment.
  • Participate in staff appraisals, meetings, and training sessions.
  • Support learners’ personal and social development.
  • Maintain accurate records, including Individual Education Plans, risk assessments, and learner progress.
  • Communicate effectively with parents, carers, and external professionals.
  • Deliver and support teaching and learning both on-site and off-site.
  • Conduct teacher observations and learning walks.
  • Monitor learner progress and promote inclusion, equality, and positive behaviour strategies.

Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status.
  • Experience in special educational needs provision and leadership.
  • Strong understanding of SEND frameworks and statutory requirements.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to plan, monitor, and evaluate teaching and learning effectively.
  • Commitment to professional development and continuous learning.
