This is not just a teaching post. At Rivermead School, teaching is about moments: The moment a learner realises they can. The moment independence starts to take root. The moment a pathway to the future becomes clear. We are looking for a passionate Post-16 Teacher who believes education should adapt to the learner, not the other way around. You will be someone who strives to ensure every learner achieves beyond expectation while preparing them for the world beyond our doors and preparing for adulthood.

Who We Are

Rivermead School is a specialist setting supporting learners with a wide range of special educational needs. Our post-16 provision focuses on delivering an individualised curriculum that builds confidence, communication, independence, and curiosity. We don’t just teach subjects; we teach life skills, resilience, and self-belief.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Bringing the curriculum to life through creative, adapted, and meaningful lessons that prepare our learners for adulthood.
  • Collaborating with our Careers Lead to ensure every student has a meaningful and appropriate progression route.
  • Leading a class or group with a focus on both academic and pastoral progress.
  • Working alongside the Post-16 Lead and SENDCo to ensure a high-quality academic offer.
  • Overseeing individualised interventions and monitoring the progress of learners who need that extra bit of targeted support.
  • Celebrating the milestones of independence that don’t always show up in data but change a learner's life forever.

This Role Might Be for You If...

  • You are a qualified teacher (QTS) with experience in KS4 or post-16 (primary experience is also welcome).
  • You have experience of teaching learners who have SEND.
  • You are highly organised and able to prioritise effectively across a complex and varied role.
  • You value relationships as much as results and can build professional links with external agencies to ensure the best outcomes for our learners.
  • You are reflective, resilient, and committed to inclusive education.
  • You want to teach somewhere your creativity is encouraged, not restricted.

Why Teachers Choose Rivermead

  • You matter here — staff wellbeing and support are priorities, not add-ons.
  • A strong coaching and mentoring culture to support your professional growth.
  • Opportunities to develop specialist SEN expertise and leadership pathways.
  • The chance to be part of a genuinely collaborative team.
  • The opportunity to change lives, every single day.

Our Commitment

Rivermead School is proud to be a diverse and inclusive employer. Safeguarding the welfare of children and young people is central to everything we do. All appointments are subject to enhanced DBS checks, health declaration, and satisfactory references.
